I am a big Apple user (have 3 ipads, 3 iphones, 2 macbook pros). But there were several issues using my iphone for work such as - battery life, call quality, typing, screen real estate etc. Bottomline, i got the Blackberry passport unlocked from ShopBB to test this (being skeptical but open because of the 30 day return policy). My experience so far (my wife has the Iphone 6) is that we both love this phone. Blackberry Hub (single place for all messages) and Blend are really superb on top of battery life (mine lasts me atleast 2 plus days before it needs a charge), speakers, apps (all my needs are covered on Amazon App Store) etc. BB 10 is so much smoother than IOS ( i never thought i would say this). It is not as heavy or big as i expected it to be. Easily fits in my jeans and pant pockets. Also, i am not a big fan of single handed typing (usually people do this when they text and drive) as they are put other people's life in danger. Also, i was a two handed typist on my iphone as well.

Yongs, 14 Nov 2014From anyone in South Africa, does this phone uses BIS? No BB10 devices use BIS.
All BB10 devices use conventional data plans like all other modern smartphones, i.e. iPhone or Android. No BIS subscription is required, nor does it matter that your carrier specifically know you have a BB10 device.

This device quite ok. Don't compare it to iPhone. This device just different. This device is intended for professional in office environment as BlackBerry intended too. Email experience is great, hub is sync perfectly once u know how. Yeah don't play game with it, cause u will feel stupid. Battery life is really good. Screen is awesome. Calling quality is good, but speaker placement in your ear is important when u make calling because the awkward size of this phone but can get used overtime. That's it.

Just having little problem with lack of some major apps. Like tango and viber. But I sideload it via one mobile market and amazon market. Just I think its not that polish and compatible with passport for now. But its 90% working

Allyssa, 13 Nov 2014I'm looking into getting my fiance and I new phones for Chr... moreIn all honesty there is no "BEST" phone. I worked at an independent dealership, it is literally my job to familiarize myself with each model and each brand of phone before I sell a phone to a client. Each person will have a different preference and opinion for each device brand as well as their operating systems. It is all entirely dependent upon what it is you need to be able to do with the phone in particular. I activate iPhones, Android devices, BlackBerry's, and Windows phones everyday and yes iPhones are definitely a preferred model when it comes to popularity but to be quite frank they are also the phones we see coming in with by far the most issues; from broken screens and broken/damaged housing to the phone's actual enclosure, freezing, email issues where it won't let the user send out emails out of the blue, intermittent service (with a vast amount of providers so its not the providers necessarily), and Apple as a whole is nowhere near as secure with anything as everyone assumes they are. However, the product itself is beautiful and amazingly simple to use which is why most of the iPhones we activate in-store are for first time smartphone users. Almost every DIE-HARD Apple fan we have are always very open minded to switching to a different type of phone and a lot of them already have here in Canada. Personally I have had all three operating systems as my own personal devices and BlackBerry is by far the best operating system I've come across. BlackBerry as a whole is perfect for me thanks to its very secure server and ability to encrypt, its hands down the most durable type of phone I've ever had, best reception out of every phone I've ever had and it does absolutely everything I need it to. For example, I have a cabin that is over 70 kilometers outside of our town here and can make a call, browse on the web, send a text message/email from all the way out there JUST BECAUSE I HAVE A BLACKBERRY! The additional built-in antenna is phenomenal, I am the only one in my family able to have FULL FUNCTIONAL use of my phone out there. I've even tried bringing some of my other phones out there just to give it a shot and REALLY PUT THEM TO THE TEST. No iPhones work out there at all whatsoever, no HTC's, no Samsung's, no Motorolla, not a single other brand I had worked except my BlackBerry. So for me that is a huge deal. Again, due to the fact that the cabin is over 70 km from town, if something bad were to ever happen and I needed to make an emergency phone call immediately to get a helicopter out there or a plane I would never be able to even make that call with ANY of my phones... except BlackBerry.
Again it's entirely dependent upon one's preference and what they need to be able to specifically do with the device but for my personal lifestyle, I could never ask for a better phone, nor a better brand.

I'm looking into getting my fiance and I new phones for Christmas, I've always LOVED Blackberry (refuse to joing the "Apple Nation")BUT I have heard some not so good things about BB since I went to Android. I just wanted to get some advice on the phone Passport. I am a HUGE fan of phones with larger screens.. But It's such a new/different version of a BlackBerry that I'm leery about it. So can anyone give me any user tips/personal(hands on) reviews on it? I cant log in via the site... my email is allyssa.welcher@gmail.com :)

1) fast browser
yes
2) very immediate and responsive email
Yes, but you need to tweak the sync interval
3) blogging
There are apps for some well known blogs (Cutepress, for example. But you need to explore BlackBerry world )
4) whatsapp / skype
Whatsapp -> yes. skype -> not so yes :). The port does not perform well.
5) front cam for vdeo calls
Yes, but it is only 2MP.
6) direction maps
Depends upon your country I guess. But this is one area BlackBerry 10 native maps needs a lot of improvement. Third party works too ( Navfree is a pretty decent alternative, based upon crowd-sourced OpenStreetMap)
7) able to transfer file wirelessly to others' devices
A Big yes, if the other device supports it.
8) compatible to connect to audio devices thru bluetooth.
Another big yes.
9) excellent voice call quality + hands free
Indeed.
10) excellent music management and built in audio quality.
Decent music quality, with good headsets.( not very mind-blowing , though.)
