You need wi fi connection if Not you can use phone
Hot spot as this is wi fi and playbook will think it is
Normal wi fi signal, I do this all the time,
Update is automatic and minimum 20% battery level needed
If set up stops re start, good luck.

Connection have a strong signal?,are you using a phone hot spot connection?, is its signal good?,( I use phone hot spot as it is wi fi ) if yes, try start up again if no luck, you might have to return it,

a lot of problem better buy another tablet and change brand
problem first boot
problem for upgrade os 1 to os2
problem wireless connection
problem usb cable (fragile)
bug with desktop software (bug "file transfert")
no support fully android apps
bluetooth only with blackberry phone
os boot very slow more than 3 min

Playbook has many, many problems.
- Often crashes
- Takes FOREVER to turn off from completely underpowered state (battery died)
- Doesn't always charge if it's plugged in. (it must be turned on or something)
- Very small screen
- Very bad app selection
- Also, the android compatibility was almost a year later than what was announced
Overall: horrible product, even when bought on sale for $200.

Blackberry Playbook , 03 Aug 2012Without wifi at the initial setup the device won't come on ... moreAgreed, but as the update is major (OS 2.0) & huge in size, it is obvious to take more time. Instead of doing it manually at home or office, it is better to take the PB at Authorised Service Ceter. You will get the updated PB returned same day within 2-3 hours. And yes, it's free of cost.

Without wifi at the initial setup the device won't come on and when you do connect to a wifi network, it takes a long time to update because the update is sometimes over 3oomb, I recommend buying an apple device, blackberry stinks and its to much drama. Can't wait for blackberry to close its doors and keep it close.

up date is usually automatic,must have minimum 20% battery and be plugged into
mains, if screen freezes up press power button and press restart, up date is about 518 Mb
it is major improvement, as after update you have e mail with out blackberry phone and other improvments I bought one at launch 16GB and waited for 2.0 update worth it, as playbook can be used as stand alone tablet, with any phone wi-fi hotspot, an underrated tablet and just bought 32GB
playbook for £149 too good to miss, selling out fast. Hope this helps.

i bought a playbook 2weeks back and since then i've been unable to use it.... i experienced an initial setup problem. after switching it on for the first time, it asked me to perform a mandatory update to OS2 before i'll be able to use it at all.
dont know maybe anyone has experience a similar issue. will like to know if there's any solution to this.
