Bloomberg: No new AirPods this year, the Pro models will have no stems
Apple hasn’t released an updated design for its in-ear AirPods since 2019 and despite reports that new models are coming later this year, we may have to wait until 2022, according to sources talking to Bloomberg.
The AirPods 3 will have shorter stems and a new charging case. We’ve seen those in leaked renders and even a live image. The new models are supposed to get support for Spatial Audio.

The AirPods Pro 2 will have no stems at all. The design is supposed to debut with new a Beats headset expected next month (the Beats Studio Buds, perhaps?). The new Pros will have improved motion sensors that will be used for fitness tracking, according to the report.
There are no plans to upgrade the AirPods Max, though we may get additional colors.
Headphones aside, Apple is reportedly developing a new HomePod that will have a screen and camera for FaceTime, similar to Amazon’s Echo Show devices. The HomePod will allegedly include some Apple TV features, which may give it an edge over the Amazon design.

Stems are fine because they make handling of earphones easier. You can align them easily and you always know which is which and how it should be oriented. Good luck with all others that are just blobs with silicone tip.
