I am also using this phone. Very nice.
I think it is doubt that M/s. Celkon will release update for ICS. I have mailed M/s. Celkon for ICS update. You also please mail them for ics update.
Previously I used Samsung galaxy tab p1000 and galaxy pop. Those mobiles have more ROMS on XDA forum. So I changed easily through the Great XDA forum. But for this Celkon A97, we have to make request in XDA for rooting and custom roms. Any Indian Developer may help, because it available only in india (I guess so).

Celkon is a upcoming and well known brand... I got A97 two weeks back from Big C. I love this phone a lot.. Even though I own an Apple iPad, a Symbian powered Nokia mobile and now this android OS celkon...
It outruns it's completion like Karbonn A9 and spice phones... I did a quadrant test on this, and it scored 2230+ score... Where as karbonn A9 only stands near 1400. Better score than HTC DESIRE HD & Samsung Nexus S... And it have a better graphics... I mean awesome graphics... And better internal memory.. Solid build quality.. Not like cheap build quality A9.... Sound quality is great when in calls. It have two micro phones one at back near camera another at bottom of screen for notice cancelation. And it have nice looks... Perct eye candy resolution..
It never hanged for me spite of the heavy usage... And full loaded apps on my 8gb memory card... As well as internal memory... But a little doubt, it shows internal SD memory as 2Gb and free space of internal Sd is also 2gb, but I am unable to move any application to that as well as I can't put any data there... Any ones help on this is appreciated.
Dual sim works well... Wifi pretty good but not stable some times it's a software bug... Tethering worked well.. Superbly... Tested dlna apps with my 42 inch Panasonic.. Mediashare app is perfect for dlna..
Real racing 2 highend game works pretty smooth.. Without any crashes.. Even my friends SGS2 crashes and very slow for this game.. Poor Samsung galaxy 2.
Pretty bright display and big display with good colour reproduction.
Downside is battery.. Same like all androiders trouble... for me I have optimised settings and am a heavy user... It only gives me the juice of a day or so.... Better powered battery some thing like 1800 or a1900 mAh will be best for this.... At one suggest me any compatible high powered battery's for this..
Another one is viewing angles..pretty bad... It's normal with other phones of this kind...
Camera is also average.. For indoors it's pretty bad but on outdoors its giving good results for still pics as well as video.... Like 720p resolution.
It lads a flash or led light... That's it and every thing fine..
Front cam works well.. Little dim good for Skype n 3G Video calls
For now that's it.. Am looking for official ice update don't know wheathere celkon provides or need to root the same through xda...

one of the best phone i have ever seen in my life.only 8500/-rs and this kind of feutures waaaaaaaaaaaw...wish if it comes in white colour

Hi, I purchased this for 8500 rs yesterday. It is awesome phone. You can expect all features of high end phones (galaxy s series - above 20000 rs) in this.
Slim, 1 ghz, 5 mp cam and super fast.
The only small problem is power and volume buttons are tiny and hard to press.
Any body know, how to root the phone "? . But I dont know. M/s. Celkon release uypdate (android) for this.

The most amazing part with this mobile is:
1)TOUCH(very speed),
2)LOOKS(no other mobile has with this cost),
3)PROCESS SPEED(eg:can takes pics through cam without any lag),
4)COST(its will be around 20k if you wish to buy with other brands for these specifications with some exceptions),
5)SPECIFICATIONS(I need not say any thing, they are almost everything in every field),
6)DISPLAY(4 inches).
some disappointments:
1)CAMERA QUALITY(doesn't sound as 5mp,but just as 3mp with good resolution),
2)HEAD SET(cheap),
3)CHARGING(takes 4 hours for complete charging),
4)PC SUITE(not available for now),
5)Some accessories not available(case and pouches,as it is a new model).
OVER ALL:
1)A best mobile at the cost of 8.5k.
2)A beginner of smart phone can go for it.
3)if you operate it once you will not leave it!!!!

Some requests for information from the buyers of this phone.
1. Does this phone have HSUPA connectivity. If yes, then what is the speed?
2. What is the GPRS class?
3. What is the EDGE class?
4. Does this phone support Java? If yes then what is the MIDP emulator version?
5. This phone claims to have a-gps. Is it correct?
6. Does this phone have compass for auto orientation of maps?
Would appreciate if anyone can clarify these as I am considering the purchase
