Chrome 48 beta brings Present to Cast, custom notification buttons

Prasad, 07 December, 2015

Google has added some useful new features in the beta version of the upcoming Chrome 48.

One of the features exclusive to the Android version is Present to Cast, which takes advantage of the Presentation API and Cast SDK to allow mobile sites to present to Google Cast devices, which can then be controlled through the browser on the phone. So if the mobile site has some sort of presentation facility, you can cast it to a screen and use the phone as a remote to go through the presentation.

The other addition is custom buttons in notifications. Chrome added custom notifications from websites since version 42 but now sites can also add custom buttons within those notifications for added functionality.

The other main feature is that websites can now detect your maximum bandwidth using NetworkInformation.downlinkMax and NetworkInformation.onChange APIs to detect and change the download speed, respectively. They can then serve content accordingly.

Chrome may be a lot of things but it isn't ugly, one of the most minimalistic looking browsers out there, FF on the other hand is downright grotesque looking on top of being a memory hog lol

No, Opera went bad after they've started using the Chromium engine. That's a really bad engine, compared to Opera's engine prior to version 12. Also, I'm not using Edge or Safari either. There are a lot of browsers out there, that are just awesome. ...
