CMF Headphone Pro announced with customizable look and an Energy Slider

Nothing released its first over-ear headphones earlier this year and now sub-brand CMF is following suit. The new headphones look normal – we mean that in a good way – and they are true to the CMF spirit.

Instead of the kooky, rectangular, transparent design of their siblings, the CMF Headphone Pro have a much more traditional, rounded design. They are available in Light Green, Light Gray and Dark Gray. You can customize their look by swapping the ear cushions with a different color, either Light Green or the trademark Orange. Customization is a core part of the CMF brand and this gives you plenty of options.

The good news doesn’t end there – these cost a third of what the Nothing headphones cost. If you are in Europe, you can pick up the CMF headphones for €100/£80 right now. Additional ear cushions are €25/£20. The headphones will also be available in the US from October 7 and will cost $100 (additional cushions are $25). For comparison, the Nothing Headphone 1 launched at €300/£300/$300.

The CMF Headphone Pro have amazing battery life – up to 100 hours! Okay, that’s with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) disabled. With ANC on, the headphones can still last a respectable 50 hours. For comparison, official numbers put the playback times for the Nothing headphones at 80/35 hours depending on ANC status. In our review we found these times to be pretty accurate.

It’s not like the CMF headphones lack in features either. The Hybrid Adaptive ANC claims to reduce noise by up to 99%. The “adaptive” part is because it can automatically switch between strong, moderate and light cancellation modes, depending on your environment. There is a full transparency mode as well.

Another cool feature is Static Spatial Audio. This has Cinema and Concert modes, which adapt the sound stage (changing width, depth and clarity) to simulate a movie theater or a concert hall.

Here’s another win for the CMF Headphone Pro – they use hardware controls. We find that touch controls can be finicky at times. A multi-function roller allows you to adjust the volume and control playback: roll for volume, press for play/pause and long-press to change the ANC mode manually.

Then there’s the Energy Slider – this adjusts the bass or treble on the fly (you can pick which one it is in the Nothing X app). This lets you tune the sound of the headphones on the fly, without having to take your phone out.

Finally, there is a quick access button that can be customized to toggle Spatial Audio, start a voice note (which will sync to the Essential Space on your Nothing/CMF phone) or even summon ChatGPT.

The CMF Headphone Pro have 40mm drivers with 16.5mm copper voice coils. They support the high quality LDAC codec and are Hi-Res Audio Wireless Certified. Nothing partnered with Audiodo for the Personal Sound Profile feature – a three-minute test calibrates the audio settings to your ears. And this calibration is on the headphones, so you can use them with your PC, for example, not just your phone.
