Corning Gorilla Glass 5 will survive drops up to “selfie-height”

Enrique, 20 July, 2016

Corning, the company behind the glass on your smartphone has just announced Gorilla Glass 5.

Corning says that over 85% of smartphone owners have dropped their phones at least once per year with 55% of owners saying they’ve dropped their phones at least 3 times or more per year. As well, more than 60% of smartphone owners said they drop their phones between shoulder and waist height.

This drove Corning to develop glass that can survive tougher drops. The company has successfully developed their new Gorilla Glass 5 to withstand face-down drops of up to 1.6 meters high in up to 80% of occurrences.

Gorilla Glass 5 is now commercially available but it might be a little while before we see this new improved glass on any smartphone. The company says we can expect to start seeing these new cover glasses “later this year”.

Motorola's is not glass, its PLASTIC

We do have Vitrum Flexile glass but that invention is lost forever. It is the world one and only unbreakable glass. The closest we have is Motorola shatterproof glass.

Bulletproof glass is too thick. It still can crack. It is basically two pieces of glass sandwiched together with thick gel in the middle(the one that actually stops the bullet). This for a phone; touchscreen will not function.
