Anonymous, 12 Oct 2010ordered mine should come in monday tuesday can't wait !!!Hi,
You will like it, just be ready for the size as it is a big 5" screen. It fits perfectly into my work suit pants and heans pocket. It is quiet thin but is quiet visable in your pocker. I have no weird looks yet, however i constantly have it my hand as I am always surfing the net on it.
Battery life does run down a little faster then i expected. Say an hours train ride of constant usage surfing, no music playing, my battery life can go from 100% to 85% just after an hours usage constantly using it. However I put in on charge attached to my work PC when i get in, so I'm not fussed about battery life due to charging it home and office.
The screen is great and the quality is good. The screen is very responsive like the iphone 4. I'm also anniphone 4 user and I like both, it is hard to go from playing on a 5" screen to a 3.5" screen after a while hehe.
My only wish with the Dell streak would be if I could connect my itunes music directly to the Streak and sync. Blackberry allows this feature which is great.
Cheers
Craig

I have been checking the comments every other day as I am thinking of getting this device. I presently use HTC HD2 and I also have a HP Ipaq 214 PDA so I like devices with huge screen which is the major reason I am attracted to the streak. I intend to dump the Windows OS as I think the Android is more innovative.
My major questions are as follows:
1. Does the streak allow you to access emails like the blackberry ??
2.Can you use documents as Microsoft word & excel ??
3. Does it autorotate on ALL applications on the phone ?? My HTC HD2 only autorotate on certain apps contrary to what was said when the device launched.
4. How is the battery life ??

The internal memory capacity is 2GB not 16 as stated. It's got no proximity sensor - it's using the accelerometer to turn the screen off.

anon, 08 Oct 2010it's not a tablet, it's not phone.. and it has an old versi... moreI've had the Dell Streak (in red direct from Dell) for a week, also bought the car holder/charger kit. I'd read so many negative comments regarding the Steak 'only' having Android 1.6 but I'm very pleased with the product, I'll upgrade when a stable OS update is available (to make it even better) but with the exception of one or two websites (flash) everything that I want to do exceeds my expectations right now. I'm a long time gmail / google calendar (and google voice when I'm in the USA) user, I bought it to use these services and the google maps navigation. The combination of the Android OS and the 5" screen is exceptional, it is without a doubt the best piece of technology I've ever bought. I just wish Dell would allow me to uninstall the apps I don't want (touchdown demo), after all it is my phone not a carrier subsidised unit.

Why should I pay EUR599 in order DELL to experiment once more?
Who will really service it? Where will I find accessories once I need? How about spareparts?
No thank you very much........enough experiments for mobile companies!

Hi
I got the Dell Streak today. Found it easy to set up and and to navigate my way around. Its mY first time using the android platform as well. I see a few people write not to get it as it's running on the old android version. If Dell are upgrading to the newer version 2.2 by years end, why would u let that stop u from getting it.
I'm an iphone 4 user also and I must say the sensitivity of the touch screen is just superb, it is just as sensitive as the iphone 4. It is quit bigger in size but is as thick as iphone 4. Holding it takes alittle to get used too, however it took me a little time to get used to holding iphone 4 as well.
It slides perfectly into your jeans pocket or trousers pants but u wouldnt want to be wearing tight jeans.
It has been turning itself off a couple of times but not sure whether that's due to all the playing I'm doing currently. When I had a blackberry it did the same also, so no complaints here.
Its very solid like the iphone 4 which I like, it doesn't feel like a plastic toy like samsung models.
I'm loving the 5'' screen, fits so much onto it. I got mine through Optus Australia however I put a Vodafone sim in it and it worked as Optus don't network lock. Surprisingly there is no optus software on it. Just stated this for Australian's who are considering getting the Dell Streak.
At this stage, day 1, I am happy with the Dell Streak At ;p

I personally bought this phone 2 days ago, in the last month i have had Samsung Galaxy S, Sony Ericcson X10, HTC Legend, Nokia N97, Motorola Milestone.... All of these phones have individual pros and cons, and so far i havent found any downside to the phone, i use it for calls/text/email/facebook/movies. and my bettery does get drained in a day but i expect that, i had same problem with all the above phones to. But i personally would recommend this phone to anyone who wants to have the world in the hand, and as for the size.. once u put it in ur pocket u barely notice it(unless u wear tight jeans)

Don't buy this, you'll be very disappointed.
I've had 2 and both went wrong.
The back cover will break or the software will screw itself over.
Its not very well featured for its price, It could at least have a better camera and maybe even have the most recent version of Android. Flash 10.1 support is really needed on this for a such a huge screen, it would seem a shame to waste it.
Nice idea Dell, needs much more development

I own one. Have done for two months now, and can say beyond doubt, if you want a good phone, buy a phone. This is more for those who want a pocket computer, and less phone features. It's 5 inch screen means most pages fit nicely on the landscape view without things becoming too illegible, but no flash support thusfar, so the pages are a lil dead looking sometimes.
The latest 2.1 firmware, which was withdrawn, has bugs that make it a little annoying at times, and as it was withdrawn most new Streaks will come with Donut, ie 1.6, and thus annoy even more users.
Stability wise its great, so long as you are careful what you install, and if you use it as a phone primarily, the battery will last a day, tops. If you start using features other than occasional web use, it drains, and fast, the GPS will cane the battery within 4-5 hours, just being on, but again, depends on the apps you have running, some will not touch it, some will.
All in all I'd give this a 3/5, given a choice, I'd swap it for a Palm Pre Plus, but I'm stuck with it on O2 for now.
