Oreo-based EMUI 8.0 coming to the Mate 9 and P10 families
Huawei announced today the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and Mate 10 Porsche Design with Android Oreo. The company also unveiled that four more devices will get the latest version of the launcher - the Mate 9, the Mate 9 Pro, the P10 and the P10 Plus. The phablets will get the upgrade in “three to four weeks” after the Mate 10 series launches, while the P-series flagships should arrive “in the near future”.
EMUI 8.0, pictured on Huawei Mate 10 ProHuawei announced that the devices with EMUI 8.0 will have faster app launching and better power allocation. According to in-house test results, performance improved by 12%.
The user interface will also suggest features based on environment and user interaction, like a suggestion to turn on the blue light filter. EMUI 8.0 will also offer to open notifications in split-screen if the app is compatible with this feature of course.
Sadly, Huawei Mate 9 camera will not get the real-time smart scene recognition, but most of the other AI features should be part of the update.
Most of the changes Huawei made are actually on the inside. The Emotion UI will sport the same basic design with no major changes.
The announcement also mentioned security updates. Top-notch Huawei devices will get patches every month, with mid-tier phones receiving them every two months. The entry-level handsets will be updated once every three months.
