Firefox for Android, a.k.a. Fennec, coming in February 2010?

28 January, 2010

It's been a while since we first heard that an Android-compatible Firefox version is in the works. Word on the street is that the waiting is almost over: we can expect the first beta version of the Fennec to show up this February.

Reportedly, Mozilla's Firefox for Android OS powered devices (or Fennec, as they call the mobile version of the web browser), has been cooking since December 2009 but now most of the work is done and the company is about to release the first beta of the application.

During a meeting of the Mozilla team it was announced that this beta will be launched sometime in February 2010.

Currently, Firefox is among the most popular PC web browsers. It has been available for Maemo-based devices for a while now (such as Nokia N900 and Nokia N800) and there is also an alpha version for WinMo devices. But now with the Firefox for Android company's plans go even further.

So, what's left? Maybe seeing it in the AppStore isn't too far away now?
