When I called the support line the guy on the phone told me that Garmin only supported the navigation side of the phone.
The hardware side was not a Garmin problem and that I had to call optus to get it fixed.
I did ask him again just to make sure.

So far I have been disapointed in my phone. This is my second one and I am having problems with it.
          Here are my problems.
First the gps would not turn off.
When i rebooted it the phone went into a blue screen and into a Usb polling mode and the phone froze.
This morning the phone did exactly what my first phone which optus exchanged and the side widgets disapeared and the phone froze.
So far I would not recommend this phone to anyone till the problems are sorted.
On the first phone I called Garmin support and told them of my first problem on the first phone i had.
They told me that they do not support the phone only supply the navigation software.
So I had to call Optus

I have just acquired my Garmin Asus A10 and have been very impressed with it.
The phone runs smoothly and once you get used to the keyboard, typing (albeit with two thumbs) is positive and accurate.
The on phone manual is informative and easy to use.
This is my first "smart"phone and I am amazed how intuitive it is to use.
If however if something does go wrong, it comes with a 24 month warranty and you can't beat that, all for $29.00 a month.
                            I am impressed.

                              This phone is broken.

Ok. This phone is very new (has been out in Australia for about a week). I got one through Optus on a $29 plan. I don't know if it is my phone or the model but mine works so poorly it is broken. This is made worse by the fact that this phone is seemingly unsupported. Being a phone developed by 2 companies Garmin and Asus neither have decided to support it on their support pages. On each manufacturers web page to request support you have to fill in your phone model/ serial number etc. The A10 is not listed on either of the manufacturers support pages to be able to forward a message on to support. Further, the support page on Garmins site points to the Asus site for support for the A10 and the support page on the Asus site points to the Garmin site for the A10.

I am also sure this phone has been rushed to market. There is currently no PC software out for this phone. No sync or phone browsing software. The instructions that came with my phone said to install the software off the CD before plugging it into the computer with the USB cable. There was no CD in the box and there is nowhere on the Garmin or Asus sites that point to this software existing.

Here is a copy+paste of my of my comment on the Asus website (the only place I thought I might get some support)

                              ------
Hi. Firstly this question is about the Garmin-Asus A10 Not the G60 as listed because the A10 isn't in the list. This phone is new and currently there is no support for it. The www.garminasus.com site leads here for support and the link for support on this site leads back to www.garminasus.com. Not helpful. I realize this may not be the right place for this but there is no where else to put it currently.

I'm in Australia and I got the A10 today on a plan with Optus. My phone is working poorly to the point of being totally broken. Its problems are all related to software and user interface but they go way beyond problems like slow or hanging processes, poor capacitive touch etc. At the moment every single piece of the user interface, applications and the 3 standard touch buttons is broken.

While I am using the phone, applications or pieces of the user interface will randomly open and close. Things will just open themselves. The 3 buttons never work ether taking up to 10 presses to work or registering multiple presses at once. The 'widgets' menu will open all of the time. I am sure I am not pressing anything because when I was using the phone as a GPS, 10 minutes after I had set it up and didn't touch again, the widgets menu would open. This happened about 5 times today.

I also must point out that all these problems have been tested by very slowly, preciesly and calmly using the phone. It wasn't storing actions while processing and then dumping the stack of actions resulting in weird behavior. I put the phone on a table and used 1 finger to slowly use the phone and these problems were numerous.

An example of the problems. If you know the A10, it has 2 menu sets that display together. You can drag the smaller menu (sort of) over the larger menu to only display only the small menu. Going through testing what was working and what wasn't this was the sort of thing that was happening.

-Tried to drag the smaller menu over the larger to only display the smaller menu
-It didn't work so try again
-15+ times dragging the menu before it stays in place and displays.

                              -Open the widgets menu
-Try to exit the widgets menu using the home button
                              -Doesnt work
-10+ tries using the home button the close the widgets menu
                              -Open the widgets menu
-6 tries on the home button the close it
                              -Open the widgets menu
                              -Closes first time
                              -Open the widgets menu
-8 tries on the home menu to close it

This was the same for the back button. I am sure the screen is not damaged it is the software not registering.

Apart from these problems the phone just has all round crazy problems. None of the buttons in the software (these are not the three touch buttons) ever works the same way. I have only checked the software that came installed but all of it acts crazy. Sometimes the phone will spaz out and launch and close several things at once. It looks possessed.

What is going on with my phone. I see there are no software updates released yet. Is my phone broken or is the A10 really this bad of a phone?
                              -----

I had another look at the phone today. Outside of the many and vast technical problems that I found I really think this phone is poorly design.

It suffers from a lot of the problems new Nokias have in trying to get pieces of the user interface do what PCs can. Things that should be easy and obvious. Some examples.

-The browser is crippled. It can surf fine but has no functionality like saving files and images, launching video in a separate app etc. You can read web pages and search for text in a page but that's it.

-There is no real file browser and apps that need one don't have one. I plugged the phone into the computer and moved an image to gallery to set as a wallpaper. When I went to view it, it wasn't there. There was no way to get the gallery to search for images, file browse and find the image, or refresh the gallery. What is worse is that I went back 10 minutes later and suddenly the image was there. The same problem affects many of the apps. None of the apps treat data as something they can share so it becomes impossible to do anything with any media without using workarounds or plugging the thing into the computer to move things. It really defeats the purpose of a smart phone.

-The phone can play-back video as in you can record and play video but the phone has no video player app. I couldn't launch the video I moved across from my PC because I couldn't get it to come up the gallery.

-The menu system has heaps and heaps of inbuilt apps/functionality that no one wants. Its ok to have a few branded icons for the carrier built into the phone but this phone has about 60 icons for apps in the menus. If I could delete them I think I would use about 7 of them.

                              Conclusion

My phone is technically broken and has many many bad design and user interface problems. If it does turn out there is something wrong with my phone or Garmin or Asus (or android) release an updates that fixes some or all of theses problems I will retract some or all of this review.

Then just drag over the stuff you want into the Media folder.

on the other hand: Yep - The Manual is now finally working on the support page, the PC Sync is still somewhere else than the link points to :-) !

Despite the initial support problems, I have to say, this is a rather NICE and versatile "All-around Gizmo" , that I'd absolutely recommend to anyone - especially in it's price tag!
