Google Maps finally adds speedometer and speed limits for iOS and CarPlay

Google is finally rolling out support for speedometer readings and speed limits in Maps on iOS, and these also work through CarPlay.

The move comes a whopping five years after the same functionality was added to Android, bafflingly. Still, it's finally here on iOS too. This being a Google app, it might however take a few weeks for the rollout to be completed, so don't fret if you don't see this just yet.

The speedometer will use km/h or mph depending on your region. You can turn it on in Settings > Navigation > Driving options. The speed limit feature will change the colors on the speedometer to nudge you to drive within the speed limit set for that particular stretch of road.

Google notes that the speedometer reading in Maps is "for informational use only", so you should always rely on your vehicle's speedometer to confirm your actual driving speed.

You need to turn it on in settings. Go to the settings of Google Maps and click on Navigation Settings. If you scroll down, under Driving Options, you will see a toggle for Speed Limits and Speedometer. You need to turn on both and enjoy.
