Google+ Photos shutting down from August 1 onwards

Samir, 20 July, 2015

Google announced its plan to start winding down Google+ Photos and replace it with the recently introduced Google Photos. From August 1 onwards, Google+ Photos will stop working on Android, and soon afterwards on the web and iOS.

Current Google+ Photos users are required to move their images and videos to Google Photos by installing the new standalone app. All images and videos backed up via the Google+ Photos will be available at the http://photos.google.com - one can always download the data using Google Takeout.

Google Photos brings unlimited storage for high quality photos and videos for free. The new app can make automatic backups, as well as organize and present the images as collections.
