Pixel 7a, 05 Aug 2024I've been a fan of Google phones since the Nexus 4 and... moreHave you turned on VoLTE? Try disabling VoWiFi and Adaptive Connectivity Services. I have no issues with mine on 4G. Rather decent phone, except battery life: I get 2 days with "Data Saver" enabled. :D
I know, but I was getting 4 days with the 6a.

I've been a fan of Google phones since the Nexus 4 and this one (pixel 7a) is my first disappointment! I am barely able to make a decent phone call after the android 14 upgrade which was enforced shortly after I bought the phone). In over 90% of the cases my calls get interrupted or the other party is not able to hear me. Basically, this phone cannot be used as a phone. After experiencing these issues I went to read on various forums and it turned out that this was an issue in the EU & Asia, incl. in models pixel 7 pro, 8a and 8. Google support claims it was due to our local mobile operators and/or that there was no official Google support in our area. hence our phones should not be expected to work properly. Nevertheless, there were people complaining of the same issues from countries where Google is offering such a support. Even more, in their support statement, it says that Google complies with all EU regulations and yet it is not working in all EU countries. It has been over 6 months now, tons of complaints and multiple security patches and fixes yet none of the fixes targeted the essential funcion of the phone - the calls.

Aside the less than average battery life, everything else about this phone is great. Google's first iteration of anything is usually rough, so I might hold on to my Pixel 7a up until the 2nd iteration of the TSMC pixel 11 series.

I have accepted my fate and will stick to my 7a until TSMC Tensor arrives (-_-).
Tried S23, A55, A35, Edge 30 Neo, even P8P. None can compare... S23, A55 and A35 have some serios camera issues (oversaturation, noise, over-sharpening, especially A35), Edge 30 Neo's camera... well, it just ticks the box (not to mention it suffers from previous Samsung Max-brightness Camera syndrome) and P8P was causing global warming and actually increased my room temperature by 2 degrees C (got small room)!
7a just has bad battery life, that's all. And... well, charging is really slow so... yeah. But I can save money for the 10 Pro (I'm hoping it's a mini phone with telephoto).
I absolutely despise other UIs (HyperOS, BBK OS etc.). and I can't buy Apple because of work issues (Bluetooth transfers). Oh man... 2025 can't get here soon enough.

Biscuits, 23 Jun 2024What the hell are you doing? Mine can last over 24h before ... moreMy battery gets to around 38-40 degrees depending on my use, which is whatsapp for work, Jabber(chat program), and banking apps etc, I don't have social media apps on this phone.
The battery doesn't last a day, and constantly discharges itself from 40-0 in seconds, there has to have been a bad batch of batteries with these phones.
I noticed it got worse with the update beginning of June, I never noticed it this bad before then.

witter, 25 Jun 2024Would you still buy this now a year old phone, or is there ... moreNo I wouldn't, I've had the phone since June 23, the battery is cooked. It charges to 100%, drains normally until around 42% then you can literally count it down in seconds and it shuts off showing the red battery symbol, when you plug it in, it comes back on to 2% and appears to charge normally. I've tried safe mode etc but the same happens, and google want me to send them the phone, which leaves me without a phone for 7-10 working days, so they can repair under warranty (assuming they deem it to be under warranty and don't try to blame me somehow).
It's a shame because the rest of the phone is great

Would you still buy this now a year old phone, or is there something better for that price that is smaller than 6.5" ? I don't care about 5G, and esim that much. I am also thinking about waiting for a while that with 8a the price of 7a will get lower maybe? Now I have Xiaomi redmi note 11 and after two years it is a piece of garbage, but I heard that Pixels are fine even after 3 years and still getting updates, I woud buy Xiaomi again, especially for their side mounted fingerprint reader which I love, but there is no smaller phone than 6.7" by Xiaomi which is a big shame.

Camera and performance is good but the problem is the battery drain, heating issues, and security updates. Google Pixel 7a battery can last only 6-8h, I'll rate this phone 7/10 good phone but needs more improvement on battery and security updates

I went to the US for a work trip last month and got a prepaid sim with 5G and the modem was horrible when using 5G. Always dropping off and heaps of battery drain. Switching to 4G fixed this problem.

I guess if you don't care about 5G and can get this phone for $300 USD or less, it is a very good phone!

Google knew about the problem before the phone went into production but still used it. One thing that helps is to turn off 5G and just use 4G instead.

It drops calls while you talk out in the open at 100% network coverage. It is truly a joke! I've had pixels 3a, 3a XL, 4a 5G and 6a with none of them experiencing these connectivity issues. I switched to eSim to try to fix it but it is the same experience. I really hope this is a software issue and a fix is coming
