The phone itself is great, but there is one big issue for international travelers. While the specs states very broad 5G bands support, Google is intentionaly blocking 5G service in many countries of the world where any other 5G phone works. Even worse is there is no public list of unblocked countries/carriers, it basically doesn't work in Latin America or Asia (except of SG and TH). There are issues in Europe too with particular carriers.
There is no warning about it anywhere on the Google web site, it is something unexpected because it doesn't make any sense, as any other phone works worldwide if there is matching 5G band support. I consider it as a cheating the customer by a false 5G support promise.

It's nice and all, but not really relevant outside US. A lot of features don't work. Had bad experience with camera preview: blue cast all over the screen. Pretty disappointed with Pixels - they really aren't worth the price. OneUI and OxygenOS are just as fluid, other OEMs have caught up in camera quality, charging speed is insane on some models. So yeah... really nothing special anymore.

These "complete" specs don't even mention the Pixel 8a is dual SIM and DSDA-capable.

Sorry Google, aside from this using Tensor G3, there is no real point of buying this phone. Galaxy S23 or Xiaomi 13 is still a better choice than this one. And one of the huge let down is that huge bezel and chin for a 2024 phone. Hey its not 2020 anymore! Im not paying $499 for a phone that looks like $249 😂

Something that needs to be added to the USB section. After talking to Google support, I found out all Pixel 8 phones, including the 8a, do support OTG.

BlaBlaBla, 16 May 2024True. Right now we are comparing pixel 8 and pixel 8a to sa... morei remember when 6a came out it was 400, store had it on discount for 1 week only before going back to 400. Pixel 8a came at 499(128GB) and 570 (256GB). For this week only 50 has been discounted making it 449 and 509. S24 is also 500 as well but only 128gb.

The writer has a real hangup on bezels. Bezels keep your fingers from triggering the screen. I also have a OnePlus 12R with a little bottom bezel. Like the others, slap a case on it and you have bezels. I can comfortably run the 8A without a case.
