Anonymous, 15 Aug 2024Very interesting! What have Pixel phone more than a normal ... moreThat's one of the main reasons why GrapheneOS only works on Pixel devices, because Google cares about security in their phones.
If only they cared about privacy in the same way…

Anonymous, 15 Aug 2024Very interesting! What have Pixel phone more than a normal ... moreI believe most SoCs have a security co-processor. Samsung has Knox Vault. I think Qualcomm also has something similar. Wouldn't consider that a deal breaker, to be honest.

Very interesting! What have Pixel phone more than a normal Smart phone!
The Google Pixel 8a features the Titan M2 security chip, a dedicated security co-processor designed specifically for Pixel smartphones. This chip plays a crucial role in enhancing the device’s overall security.
Key Functions:
Bootloader Validation: The Titan M2 communicates with the bootloader to verify that the device is running the latest known version of Android, preventing potential attacks by rolling back the operating system.
Decryption Key Storage: The chip stores decryption keys, ensuring that even if an attacker attempts to tamper with the operating system, the Titan M2 will limit the number of attempts and only reveal the keys if the correct pattern or PIN is entered.
Secure Storage: The Titan M2 supports Android StrongBox, a safe storage space for cryptographic keys used by third-party apps.
FIDO Authentication: The chip supports the universal FIDO authentication standard, enabling the Pixel 8a to function as a physical two-factor authentication key for online accounts.Enhanced Security
The Titan M2 chip eliminates potential attack vectors by:
Hardening against side-channel attacks like power analysis and voltage fluctuations
Restricting firmware updates without the device’s pattern or PIN
Isolating cryptographic keys and sensitive data.

I love this phone and I don't even own it yet. The blue color is so pretty, and the smaller size is perfect for someone like me. (I have small hands 😅) I do just wish that the blue color came in 256GB.

Anonymous, 10 Aug 2024Is it a slippery device, can I use it without a case??It has a bit smooth texture but the grip is good enough, using it for 3 weeks without a case and I had no slipping incident so far, if your hand is smooth as well you should definitely consider buying a case or avoid the phone all together.

LimeAlz, 11 Aug 20247 year of software update and 8 year of security update. co... moreTrue, but realistically, very few people use a phone that long. It's a nice added value for resale, though. If you use it for 3 years, the person that's buying it will be able to receive updates for 4 more years to come. Pretty cool. Also, camera seems to be the best in this price range. Not very versatile, but of very good quality.

My Xperia broke down and after a number of Sony phones that failed just outside the 2 yr warranty I looked at the reviews and ended up getting this phone. I wished i had not,
it is too frustrating to set up.
E.g Identify background sounds needs a Database of songs, but it will not download this unless its on WiFi. I only use my phone and have no home wifi as i have unlimited mobile data. I have removed all warnings, on usage etc. but apparently it can not use the Network for the download. Also, other downloads were running continuously with no end to the downloads that aren't actually transferring any data.
This appears to be a common problem with a lot of people reporting it for many previous pixel phones. The last post from Google says they are working on a fix, but that was several years ago so i guess we assume its never going to be fixed? The general feedback is a lot of features only work in the USA.
The phone appears to always go back to Google apps and the Gmail account for everything. It took 3 days to try and get it to use Hotmail contacts for the phone contacts.
So in summary, the phone may be ok, but the OS is frustrating and it does not work unless you have access to home wifi. This experience has put me off getting any more Pixel phones and i would recommend avoiding it.
The other option was a Nothing 2a but i steered clear because i though Google would at least have ensured their own OS was more usable.
I am a computer technical expert, so if i find this frustrating and illogical, i wonder what a non- tech user will think?

It's shocking to see the existence of this phone after I compared it to the Pixel 7a. They are almost the same except that it has a 120Hz refresh rate. The camera features are the same. The display resolution is the same. The charging speed is the same. Like seriously, Google? Just because they added 120Hz, they decided to release it as the Pixel 8a? Seven years of Android OS updates is good to see, but with such poor battery life and modem, I don't think this phone will survive more than three years. And no tech lover would stick with a mid-range phone for three years, let alone seven. I was really interested in buying it, but after comparing it with the Pixel 7a, why not just pick that up for a much lower price?

Really nice phone. I don't mind those bezels too much, neither the Gorilla Glass 3 used. But... 18 W wired charging... I mean, come on. Even the lowly Galaxy A15 has 25 W... Plus, in Europe it's rather expensive (~ 440 Euros). Seems like Google is copying Apple more than it should (iPhone SE). Sure, the 8a is more modern than the SE 3, but still... Very small improvements year-over-year. And OK, sure, I'm not expecting huge upgrades, but price wise... I mean, come on. At this rate, we'll be paying 600 $ for a Pixel 10a (if it will exist). 600 $ isn't midrange, guys, no matter the inflation. That's a lot of money and Europe is getting poorer :(

I said it several times, and now I'm gonna say it again: those thicc ass bezels are probably the stupidest decision choice from Google to date.
One might argue that this is normal for low-end phones, but mind you, this isn't low end in the slightest, and ironically most low-end phones have slimmer bezels than this! Why Google, why?!
Yeah yeah, you can call me a whiner, call my opinion worthless, I don't care. Stupid decisions deserve to be constantly ridiculed. And to be fair, this page is literally for posting opinions, so...

i got an 8a on may when i went to the US and idk why people say it has terrible battery life i literally get 8 hours of screen time, and sometimes when i go to sleep i don't even charge it because it's at 50% and i don't want to ruin the battery, plus the camera is really good for the price (except when taking pictures of someone, it'll whitewash them SO BADLY). the 5G unsupported thing doesn't even matter to me because i live in a country where 5G doesn't even exist yet (argentina)
currently running android 15 beta 4
