Google will replace Pixel 7a batteries with swelling issues

Yordan, 25 April 2025

Google Pixel 7a devices with swollen batteries will be replaced for free. The company started a replacement program that allows users with problematic devices to get their phones fixed in seven regions.

The symptoms of a problem that might qualify for free replacement include visible swelling, separation of the back cover, or abnormal battery behavior — considerably quicker discharge even with limited usage.

The Pixel 7a devices are entitled to one battery replacement at no charge, although this is only for units that are still under warranty.

Alternatively, users can return their phones and get $450, converted to the local currency equivalent.

Phones that are out of warranty can get either a one-time payment of (the equivalent of) $200 or a $300 discount for the Google Store, but only for hardware.

This does not apply to the United States and India, where walk-in and mail-in repair options are available – users in these countries will not get any of the discounts, mentioned above. The terms apply only for these markets: Canada, Germany, Japan, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.

Li-Ion specifically, because Li-Po doesn't suffer from swelling past its age.

With bunches of collections, battery swelling during warranty period is rare.
