Gurman: Apple is preparing a major iPhone redesign in 2027
The original iPhone launched in June of 2007, which means we’ll be celebrating its 20th birthday in 2027, and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests Apple is eyeing a major redesign of its most important device.
Apple will reportedly launch its first foldable iPhone in 2027, alongside a new iPhone 19 Pro model that “makes more extensive use of glass”. The report does not go into much detail about what that entails, but we’re guessing that would mean a larger percentage of the chassis is made from glass. This could mean a wrap-around screen like on the Xiaomi Mix Alpha or something else entirely.
Rumors about a glass chassis iPhone have been going on for years. Former Apple Design Chief - Jony Ive reportedly wanted an all-glass iPhone back in 2017 with the idea of a sleek and thin device that would “appear like a single sheet of glass”.
Gurman’s latest report also clarified that the iPhone 17 Pro series won’t have a two-tone back like some renders suggest. Instead, the devices will feature a uniform color just like the current iPhone 16 Pro models. Gurman did confirm the new camera island would span the width of the 17 Pro models.

iPhone 27 will be with no glass, no screen, only a small black slate which projects in thin air holograms.

Personally I think it will be awesome for Apple to drop some sort of foldable device or a "glass-like" device. When Apple finally releases something, it always seems to be perfected. So I'm excited for the next new thing
