Harman audio in Samsung Galaxies is possible but in 2018

Kaloyan, 21 November 2016

Samsung recently acquired Harman for $8 billion and now it's penning plans for the future. Samsung was eyeing Harman to strengthen its connected automobiles business, where Harman is a leading player. But it's natural to wonder if Samsung will use Harman's audio experience in its smartphones.

Well, wonder no more. Samsung and Harman held a press conference today in Seoul, South Korea to announce the acquisition and the future of the companies. The chief of automotive division shared at the event that indeed Samsung is exploring its options to add Harman audio in smartphones, but it could happen in 2018.

"It will take time for the acquisition process to be completed, including the planned shareholders’ vote. After that, we could ramp up efforts for business synergies. If we are to adopt Harman’s high-end audio technology for the Galaxy S series phone, the first model could come in 2018," said Park Jong-hwan, the head of the Samsung's automotive division.

And in case you are interested if Samsung is going to make cars, the answer is no. For now, Samsung is only interested to develop solutions for connected cars, not make the whole thing.

In other news, the latest report reveals the upcoming line of Galaxy S8 accessories will include Protective covers, a Clear View Cover, a Keyboard Dover, a LED View Cover, and an exclusive Protective Cover made of Alcantara. An official battery backpack and a multimedia dock complete the list of accessories.
