Here's when Samsung is launching its tri-fold smartphone

Samsung is almost ready to take on Huawei's tri-fold Mate XT. We've already heard that the Korean company is working on such a device, which will unfold in a different way, thus protecting the flexible screen when it's folded.

The device is said to be limited to around 200,000 units, and today a new report from Korea tells us when to expect it to launch. It will apparently arrive in the third quarter of the year, so at some point between July and September.

Here's when Samsung is launching its tri-fold smartphone

This timeline lines up perfectly with Samsung's yearly foldable device launch, so the tri-fold device could be introduced alongside the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 in July. Production for the tri-fold device is set to start in the second quarter, so between April and June. The device's screen will unfold to a size of 9.9" to 10".

With this device counted, Samsung is launching no less than four foldable smartphones this year, as the Galaxy Z Flip FE will also arrive. The new report claims there is a high chance that the Galaxy Z Fold7 will have its digitizer removed, presumably in a bid to make it thinner, as Samsung has been losing the thinness race in foldables recently to Chinese companies like Honor with its Magic V3.

While it's unclear what chipset the tri-fold will use, we've heard that the Fold7 and Flip7 might go with the Exynos 2500 that didn't make it into the Galaxy S25 family because of yield issues, while the Flip FE will opt for the Exynos 2400e in order to be cheaper.

no foldable can have "no problems with durability", especially something as out of the left field as the Mate XT. Foldables are already super fragile and having a screen on the outside should be an even bigger cause for concern. I hope...

I remember it's screen dying in the first week of release. Specifically thanks to that exposed edge on the side (when people didn't use protective cover of the case that came with the phone). This was a rather hit topic on Chinese socials. ...
