Honor brings old Manchester United photos back to life with AI upscaling
The Honor Magic7 Pro comes with a suite of AI features, including Photo Upscale, which brings older photos back to life. In partnership with Qualcomm, the company demoed the feat in a promo celebrating the 115th anniversary of Old Trafford, the home of English football club Manchester United.
The Before and After difference was revealed by Jason Leach, a Man United club historian, who explained the significance of some pictures, including the Mark Hughes goal against Norwich City from the season when United won its first Premier League trophy.
Honor Magic7 Pro is powered by Qualcomm's premium chipset, Snapdragon 8 Elite. VP of the San Diego chip company Judd Heape stated it is the advanced AI ISP that enables such powerful AI-driven photography features. Chief Imaging Architect at Honor Wei Luo said the feature “isn't just about improving photos, it's about connecting people with magic moments from the past.”
The historian shared some personal memories about certain photos that were upscaled through AI. He pointed out details like construction beams and cranes that were barely visible in older photos but now are clearly visible.
Qualcomm is a title partner of the English team and has front-of-shirt rights until 2029. The Snapdragon logo has been used in both the men's and women's kits since the football season started on July 1, 2024.

No thanks. I don't like AI. Oil painting looking photos. Even upscalers look like an oil painting. If you crop and I love cropping!!!!
