Honor trademarks "NoxGod" imaging tech for Magic8's 200MP telephoto camera

The Honor Magic8 series is coming by mid-October and it will introduce a new imaging technology, which the company has trademarked under the name “NoxGod”. What’s this about? Li Kun, Product Manager for Flagship Phones at Honor, posted a teaser about it on Weibo.

The exec suggests that this technology will improve the nighttime performance of the 200MP telephoto camera on the upcoming Magic8 models (note: Nox is the Roman god of night).

We’re not 100% sure which Magic8 models will have a 200MP tele module yet. The Honor Magic8 Ultra will reportedly feature a customized OmniVision sensor. Like its predecessor, the Honor Magic8 Pro will also sport a 200MP periscope camera, plus a 50MP main and 50MP ultra-wide.

There are a few more models incoming. The vanilla Magic8 will be smaller with a 6.59” display (down from 6.78” on the Magic7), but it gets even better for fans of smaller phones – the Magic8 series will include a mini with a 6.3” display and a Dimensity 9500 (the Pro will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 instead).

Some or perhaps even all Honor Magic8 phones will have a Direct Time-of-Flight sensor (dToF), which enables improved depth mapping – this is often used for effects such as portrait mode.

By the way, this will be the first “Ultra” model in the Magic series – the mini will be a first for the series too. Alas, these two will only launch in early 2026, if rumors are to be believed, so the mid-October reveal might start with only the more standard members of the Magic family.
