Liquid, 07 May 2010I want too buy this one but the comments about the battery ... moreI am using my Desire for three weeks; in the first couple of days battery life seemed to me a big matter as it had not used to last a full day, but it was simply because -like everyone do- i "played" with it too much, for ex. looking in every single menu options, settings, widgets, also installing and managing contacts, mail accounts etc. etc. btw, installed more than 50 apps from the market (some of them uninstalled later) example? compass, google sky map, bubble level, barcode reader, dice, currency and unit converter, metal detector, a couple of games etc. etc. So it was totally normal that it could not last a day. Meanwhile, i read some opinions about so called "task killer" and tried 3 different tas killer (not same time) for 2-3 days without seeing no change. Then, upon reading more serious and comprehensive article about Android OS, have figured out that using task killers is not necessary, besides leading more battery drain in return. So, not using task killer anymore. what you need to do is just keeping wi-fi, gps and bluetooth connections off when not in use, disabling unnecesary update services (weather, stocks, email etc.) you can still update them manually whenever you want. There is a widget available natively in Desire, named "power control" to on-off those functions with a single tap on it.
Finally, in spite of my 3G/HSDPA data connection is open 24hrs and using live wallpaper as background battery life is appr 48 hrs now.
A recommendation; let the battery go empty fully then charge it fully by keeping plugged in at least 7-8 hrs at the first time. In later usage, do not recharge unless remaining battery level lowers than 15% (preferably wait until it closes itself) then do not unplug before it fully charged.
Note: Also I am using a third party battery level app to see exact level in % which is active all the time (so drains battery as well), and another app saying who is calling (a text-to-speak app) which is also active and drains battery constantly.

This phone is almost perfectly complete. My only issue and the sole reason why I probably wont purchase it is the weak battery. For this reason I will buy the uglier Samsung Beam. For those who have this - especially heavy users, how often do you charge it? I dont want a scenario where I am carrying a spare battery. Nor do I want to be carrying a charger 24/7 or leaving it in the charger. My current phone is the Nokia E72. I charge this about once every three, four days. I need a beast of a battery new phone. This phone has everything but damn - that battery. Why can't they make these smart phones have super strong batteries? They know we will use it for so many things apart from the conventional making calls (web browsing, listening to music, photography, gaming etc). The only smart phone that seems to hae a decent battery is the Samsung Beam. I am still unsure but swinging towards that phone.

Many people including myself use various handsets, and the HTC Desire is technically superior to iPhone in every respect, but it boils down to what you want in life. If your a businessman who depends on mission critical reliability then an iPhone would be the last thing you would use, and most people in the intelligent business community will stick with the BlackBerry, on the other hand kids will want a Ninteno DSI or a Sony PSP, or iPhone, but the HTC Desire is somewhere inbetween the iphone and the BlackBerry.

It looks like the incredible is not going to be released in europe so i will go for the next best thing desire until evo4 will make it's debut on the stage assuming that the evo will not be another handset made for some american mobile carrier.

[deleted post]actually this is a syndrome of attention deficit and it's common among children. we should not hold it against him, his daddy and mommy probably do not spend enough time with him and therefore he feels lonely and the need to come here and make a big commotion. best way is to just ignore him and he will get bored after a while and move on with his life and start learning basic English lol... assuming he has a normal life to start with...

K, 06 May 2010The term "iPhone Killer" is used as the iPhone is... more"The term "iPhone Killer" is used as the iPhone is seen in the mobile industry as probobly the best touchscreen phone out there."
--> in wat ways is it the best touchscreen phone out there? i admit it was the 1st phone with multitouch but apart from that, whats so great about it? numerous other phones have multitouch now. apple was not the first with slide to unlock nor were they the first to implement a touchscreen that recognized gestures. capacitive is better than resistive, but optical is even better than capacitive. its a shame companies do not build a phone with optical touchscreens. there was only 1 company that used to.

"It has set such a benchmark that other brands have been going out of their way to either compete or produce a phone that beats the iPhone in specs."
--> going out of their way to compete? wtf is that supposed to mean? phone companies hv been competing amongst themselves long before the first iphone was announced and in terms of sales, percentage marketshare... also there were multiple touchscreens some which looked like the iphone even before it was released. iphone is not the first, so why compare to iphone? also, im saying so many other phones beat the iphone in terms of specs that its useless comparing to the iphone.

"I disagree that the phone isnt revolutionary and doesnt have a practical design. The iPhone IS revolutionary and does have a straightforward design that doesnt need flashy buttons sticking out all over the place."
--> what was so revolutionary about iphone? pls tell me (or make something up). i wud love to hear it. flashy buttons sticking out all over the place? u mean like the shiny volume switch, on/off switch, mute switch found on the iphone? ok so it only has 1 button on the front. wow. it wasnt the first company to have a lack of buttons on the front. i wud even argue that lack of buttons on the front is a bad thing. less shortcut buttons means longer browsing times to get to what u wanted. incidentally, it takes longer to dial a number on iphone than most other phones with a numerical keypad (and some with a keyboard). i said the design was good looking but not practical. apple changed from metal to plastic (iphone to iphone 3g) bcos it didnt hv good reception (so the metal case was not practical). the current iphone 3g and 3gs both wobble on flat surfaces and there is usually wasted space if u put a case around it. also according to reports, the phone picks up signals better if it is held perfectly vertically, not slanted like most other phones that dont have such a problem (alright blame at&t all u want for the poor reception in america but who chose to work with at&t? apple. also it is not only in america where iphone has poor signal reception. the new design (iphone 4g) looks v similar to the nokia n800 and/or n810, which was available 3 yrs ago.
