HTC Desire 516 is apparently on its way to India

23 June, 2014

After having already launched it in China a few months ago, HTC is now looking to release the Desire 516 mid-range smartphone in India.

This may happen soon, as an Indian import tracking website is already listing thousands of Desire 516 dummy units having made it to the subcontinent. They've arrived in the last few days, and will presumably be handed out to Indian retailers before the official launch.

The HTC Desire 516 should be priced below Rs. 10,000, meaning it will compete with quite a few other devices.

In China, the specs of this phone vary quite a bit depending on which carrier it's tailor made for. It comes with a 5-inch touchscreen with qHD (540x960) resolution, a quad-core processor clocked at either 1.2 GHz or 1.3 GHz (depending on model), and 4GB of expandable storage.

It has dual-SIM functionality, 512MB or 1GB of RAM, and a 5MP rear camera with LED flash. The front camera is either a 0.3MP unit or a 2MP one, again, depending on carrier. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS are present in all cases, as is a 1950 mAh removable battery.

In terms of software, you can expect to see Android 4.2.2 or Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, since both options are available in China right now.
