HTC in Barcelona: P3470 and Advantage X7510 revealed

With HTC it was time for a couple of Pocket PCs at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The HTC P3470 PDA and the HTC Advantage X7510 UMPC were the debuting gadgets, while the availability of HTC Shift was made official. With GPS obviously getting a good share of attention at the WMC, there was no wonder HTC would play along, being among the standard-setters in this area.

HTC P3470

The neat and clear-cut HTC P3470 is being pitched for its ultra-sensitive GPS chip. It is compatible with the TomTom NAVIGATOR or CoPilot LIVE maps software, neither of which is preinstalled, however. Focusing on affordability, the quad-band GSM/EDGE handset offers no HSDPA or WLAN support. HTC P3470 has an ample 2.8" 65K-color touchscreen display of QVGA resolution and runs on WM6 Professional.

The customized Live HTC Home interface is also in the picture, along with the smart navigation wheel for making your way around applications and menus, zooming and scrolling.

HTC P3470 is powered by the OMAP 850 201MHz processor, and uses 256MB ROM and 128MB DDR RAM. The Li-Ion battery with a 1100 mAh capacity sounds sufficient to meet the increased power demands.

The connectivity set of P3470 includes Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP and the proprietary HTC ExtUSB (11-pin mini-USB and audio jack in one). There is also a GPS antenna connector.

The fun sector (PDA or not) sports a 2 megapixel CMOS snapper with a mechanical macro function. The HTC P3470 offers an MP3 and video player, as well as Video and Audio album.

HTC P3470 is expected to start shipping any moment to the UK, Spain, France, and the Netherlands at about 450 EUR before taxes and subsidies.

HTC Advantage X7510

HTC Advantage X7510 is a second-generation UMPC, an update of the HTC Advantage X7500. Pocket-size or not (considering the weight of 375 g and dimensions of 133.5 x 98 x 16 mm) the laptop performance is all there.

Featuring the massive 16GB of internal flash memory (yeah, no more hard drives), coupled with finger gesture recognition and full keyboard for intensive text input, the Advantage X7510 UMPC handles media, works with Microsoft Office documents, email and web.

X7510 has a full QWERTY detachable magnetic keyboard and the immense 5" VGA touch screen, along with the finger-friendly HTC TouchFLO.

The feature-packed device flaunts a built-in GPS receiver, Wi-Fi, tri-band HSDPA and quad-band GSM /EDGE support, Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP support, Opera 9 full internet browser optimized for touchscreen use. The device is powered by a Marvell PXA270 624 MHz processor with the ATi Graphic Chip W2284 and runs on Windows Mobile 6 Professional. There are 256MB ROM and 128MB SDRAM, while the user available memory is the trendy 16GB Flash, further expandable through the miniSD slot. A Li-Po battery with capacity of 2100 mAh powers the feature-packed gadget.

The connectivity department features HTC ExtUSB (11-pin mini-USB and audio jack in one), USB 1.1 host/VGA and TV Out and a 3.5 mm stereo audio jack with microphone.

There are also two camera modules: the main 3.1 megapixel auto focus camera with flash and a secondary VGA video-call unit.

HTC Advantage will be available towards the end of 1Q 2008 in select European countries.

HTC Shift

The final announcement was the first availability of the feature-loaded HTC Shift in Europe. Running on Windows Vista Business, the HTC Shift is available starting today through Telefonica in Spain and Orange in the UK, with TIM in Italy and select Europewide retailers soon to follow. The price is 1200 Euro.
