Some one please reply...WiMAX, meaning Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is a telecommunications technology that provides for the wireless transmission of data using a variety of transmission modes, from point-to-point links to portable internet access. The technology provides up to 75 Mb/sec symmetric broadband speed without the need for cables.
The technology is based on the IEEE 802.16 standard (also called Broadband Wireless Access).
The name "WiMAX" was created by the WiMAX Forum, which was formed in June 2001 to promote conformity and interoperability of the standard. The forum describes WiMAX as "a standards-based technology enabling the delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL (and also to High Speed Packet Access).

Wimax is a telecommunications standard. The revision for fix services (broadband internet for small offices / home users) is the standard 802.16d from IEEE. It was basically designed to provide broadband internet using wireless technologies for the last mile, it evolved to 802.16e which is a mobile version.
The main importance of wimax is that it's IP based, the voice is used only over IP. It was mainly supported by intel, with chipsets with Rosedale codename.
The main difference respect to GSM / EDGE / 3G technologies is that the last ones were born as mobile and voice based, they are migrating now to offer IP services. These technologies were mainly supported by Qualcomm, creator of CDMA and others.
I think that at the end, all technologies will merge in one standard. Right now, wimax is still not deployed everywhere, there are some networks in Chicago, Rusia, Japan, Korea, etc, but it's not widely provided yet.

Salman, 28 Nov 2008What is WiMax ..? Some one please reply...WiMAX = 4G :) it's a new wireless technology for fast wireless data transfer over big distances. There is an WiMAX operator in my country offering 4Mb/s speeds. And can be used for VoIP. It's very nice.

i dont know what we have in america that russia doesnt have but they have video call and almost all of the world, do we have it? thank you verizon the best provider in the world. for example research how much u can get an htc phone in england with a contract and check how much u will pay for a regular phone from verizon. so whos the idiot here?

It says here that this phone has a 5MP camera, which, according to www.htc.com, it is a 3.2MP camera!
but i also want your opinion... which phone should i buy? HTC Touch HD, or HTC MAX 4G?

This is still not very useful as 4G (WiMax) is not very common yet and the coverage is still limited in most countries.

You can use every skype for windows mobile program you want. There is fring, official skype for windows mobile as well as many other. Some uses internet connection, some GSM.

Luco, 24 Nov 2008Does anyone else think it is strange that they are calling ... moreThere is no definition for 4G yet. Just an overall explanation - fast and allowing modern multimedia services - video calls, tv etc. That's why WiMax is considered to be 4G, because it's a lot faster.

We have camera phone but not for video calling this is first one it think used for video calling and used with wifi network
