I would not recommend this phone to anyone. Was on 2 yr contract, only used it for about 6 months before my patience ran out and I just started using my old phone again (Samsung D900, what a PLEASURE compared to this).
Had some good points, to be sure, eg camera which in normal lighting wasn't great turned out to be excellent for low-light shots, smart dialing was a dream, good music player, liked the slide out QWERTY feature, quite well designed. But on the downside...ah, where do I begin? File navigation was an absolute nightmare. Taking pics to memory card, unlike with Samsung where you have an option for 'Select All', combined with individual checkboxes for near-perfect user-friendliness, was a long and tedious affair, having to send em ONE by friggin' ONE, using a cut and paste logic and navigating each time. They call this a smartphone?? I must have missed something truly profound.
The logic of the menus are so...limiting, so downright annoying and amateurish...unbelievable. Ain't never seen anything like it, before or since. I also couldn't close my apps without actually having to go to Task Manager and killing it from there, how annoying, it just sits in the background and eats your memory like crazy. Phone also came close to freezing quite frequently, then unfroze after some 10-15 seconds. Could never manage to sync it with my pc, nor mms, whilst internet connectivity was a hit and miss affair to say the least. Buttons were unresponsive, often had to press the red button about 3 times to end a call, and when texting it was standard fare to have to go back and insert a letter that simply refused to appear (despite a distinct and proper tactile response). Alarm sucked too...unlike my Samsung,which has 3 different alarm settings each with own tone, time, day of week, etc, the HTC offers you the grand total of ONE alarm, and no option to customise it for only weekdays. Swell. Organiser wasn't too bad, though you'd have to scroll through a virtually endless series of quite useless fields before coming to the general remarks field. No logic, dude! That's what stands out most for me when I think of it. It's like it's been put together by a five-year old. Actually, that may be an insult to 5 year olds.
Overall, despite the one or two okayish features on the phone, I pretty much hated it. In case you haven't picked that up yet. Don't buy it, whatever you do. You'll live to regret it. Greetings from Cape Town!

this phone really sucks.
i 've bought it an year ago. i uset it for a total of 2 hours (more or less)
it continuosly shut down the screen
i can only press some button, after some browsing in the menu the screen stops working.
the phone is still on, but i cant use it because of this issue.
absolutly: dont buy this phone! if you receive it as a gift, give it back!

I had this phone , had no problems with it but then i dropped it not too far off the ground even and then it was just done , never worked again, but great phone

Came across a guy selling some of these, very cheap ofcors, i thought it would be fun to try one. Windows is supposed to hang and malfunction, i would expect no less ehehe. A true landmark in mobile OS failures, "Defective by Design", i think i want one!

try using mobile antivirus and regular software updates as this is a mini computer and the OS is Windows .

i loved this phone the 1st time i got hold of it but as time goes on i started regreting choosing it. Sometimes it freezes and you can't even access the contacts.

What a phone!!! Iv never had so many problems with a phone in my life...it freezes, error messages are displayed every 5min's it sometimes dosen't turn on, it looses your call history and any recent text messages you recive! I DON'T recomend this phone to ANYONE_

I am an interested buyer from Africa(kenya),i work for a shop outlet,the phone seems really nice but due to the lack of care centres or HTC spare parts am having second thoughts,since no one else has bought this phone from our stock since last year.Is there any way one can get warantee from so far away?

i started to own this phone as contract from march 2009 but since october 2009 it never had any damages but my problem with the phone is that it goes dark on the screen at anytime then it comes back , it switches itself off then after a while,it become on again,it also vibrate for a long time when it does all those things.i took it for repairs at vodacare three times but every time it comes back it works well for only three to four hours then it start again.the worse problem is that it can just say the sim card is missing while the sim card is inside.thats when i had to reset it till it takes the sim card.this is trouble for me because i cannot fix it myself please help

I have been using this phone for the last 16 months.
Overall a good phone. The big highlights are the wi-fi system, a very good resolution cmos sensor camera(no flash), ease of installing java applications and games, capability to open virtually all office application files and its scratch resistant body. Battery is also above average so far, got problem with its display once and got it replaced free from HTC Service Centre.
I Just Love it. If buying it, take care that you have an htc care nearby and keep well the frontside body as its not scratch resistant, not easily available and also very costly. ask more at cool_4686@yahoo.co.in

ive been using this phone for about 8 months and my batery is faulty and the screen just goes black my internet does not work so i would not recomend the htc s710 and my friend has an htctouch dimond and has the same problem

Do not buy this phone unless you have the cash to purchase a new battery after 8 months! Rather invest in a more expensive htc. The battery dies when sending text messages, even if it is fully charged. This is a major inconvenience. So just a warning.

I am using this phone since Nov 2008 and till now not faced any battery issues or any faults on the phone. Even I am a rough user however the phone is working absolutely fine. I would definately recommend this phone to everyone because its genuinely good.
