HTC Touch Diamond preview: First look

First look

GSMArena team, 13 June 2008.

This article is outdated. We have already published a full review.

The HTC Touch Diamond is finally in our office and you can count on it getting all the attention it deserves. Just as a little teaser we decided to give you this short preview of the highly sought after gadget that seems to have it all - Windows Mobile 6.1, the wonderful HTC TouchFLO 3D user interface, VGA touchscreen display, all sorts of connectivity mumbo-jumbo, built-in accelerometer, 4 gigs worth of storage, GPS and a 3 megapixel camera. And those are just the shortlisted specs to keep it readable.

We cannot help but feel excited over our heads right now and there's rarely a gadget that can make us all so curious. It's hot, and many of you want it too. For the time being we are rather content with what the HTC Touch Diamond puts up and we are looking forward to spending more quality time with it while working on the detailed review.

Now before we continue, you know that in this sort of articles you can't help but mention the iPhone. Apple's creation doesn't miss an opportunity to impose its presence whenever the words "touch" or "touchscreen" come up in an article.

The iPhone 3G and Samsung i900 Omnia will surely put up a good fight on HTC Touch Diamond. We are yet to see how the last two will spin off once they are made available, but for now the HTC Touch Diamond seems like a market success right from the very start.

But enough small talk, let's get serious.

HTC Touch Diamond 360-degree spin

HTC Touch Diamond's dimensions of 102 x 51 x 11.5mm really put it among the most compact PocketPCs on the market. In fact there isn't a single Windows Mobile Professional- powered device to match its thickness and only a handful to beat the weight of 110g. One thing is for sure - the Touch Diamond is among the most pocket-friendly Windows Mobile devices - not even counting its VGA screen.

An interesting fact is that when we measured the HTC Touch Diamond with digital scales in our office it turned out to weigh only 103 g. It's getting sweeter by the minute.
