HTC WP7 phone leaks again, HP to stay out of the WP7 game

26 July, 2010

HTC are very happy with the market results of their touch-driven candybars with 3.7-inch screens so far. So much so that they are going to stick with it for their first Windows Phone 7-powered device too.

The phone in question made yet another public appearance today and was even kind enough to reveal a few bits about what under the hood. Apparently we are looking at a full-touch device, powered by a 1 GHz Snapdraggon CPU and sporting an 8 megapixel camera. Oh, and the screen is S-LCD as you might have guessed.

The first versions of the device will most probably be CDMA-only so Europe might need to wait a while to get it but that's mostly speculations at this stage. Still Verizon is confirmed so as one of the two carriers to get it at launch so its customers should feel safe.

And while HTC confirmed their commitment to the WP7 platform, HP officially announced that it has no interest in doing so. According to their Personal Systems Group VP Todd Bradley, HP will only focus on webOS from now on so WP7 and Android are not on the cards.

How very strange that they would choose CDMA as a launch vehicle. Being used by such a tiny minority of people it hardly seems worthwhile. Launch it on GSM and almost the entire world can enjoy this immeciately.
