The latest smartphone to get fully tested by DxOMark is the Huawei Mate 20 X. This was the huge variant of the Huawei Mate 20 that came out with a jumbo 7.2-inch display. Though it doesn’t feature the same 3D face unlock hardware that was present on the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, it does have the same triple-camera hardware on the back.

The main camera is a 40MP 1/1.7-inch quad-bayer sensor with an f/1.8 aperture lens. This sensor outputs images in 10MP. The zoom camera is an 8MP sensoe with f/2.4 aperture and OIS. Finally, the ultra-wide is a 20MP camera with f/2,2 aperture. Autofocus is performed with both phase-detection and laser-assist.

The Mate 20 X was consistently accurate in exposure of all lighting conditions and there was great dynamic range. Color rendering was also pleasant with nice saturation. White balance was also mostly accurate. Meanwhile, autofocus was quick and consistent in all lighting conditions. There’s a nice balance between textures and noise which is kept well under control indoors.

In low-light, DxOMark reported great performance at night, but the auto-flash mode was apparently not consistent. The times it did fire off, however, it did a good job of lighting subjects with good detail.

In zoomed shots, colors appeared a bit flat with sometimes inaccurate colors, but otherwise shot great details in close and medium range situations.

In video, there was excellent autofocus, great stabilization, nice colors, well-controlled noise, and accurate exposures with great dynamic range. The downsides to video are stabilization doesn’t always work well indoors, fine details are lost, and noise can sometimes be seen in the edges.

As someone who owns this phone... I call BS :). I am no fanboy of a particular brand but the image processing of the Mate 20 X is just not up to snuff. Pics come out looking very fake, too much sharpening as usual, textures smoothed over by aggressiv...
