Huawei Pocket 2 announced: the first flip foldable with four external cameras

Huawei introduced Pocket 2 today – its latest clamshell foldable with improvements all across the board. This is the first Huawei of this type to implement a waterdrop hinge for zero gap, and it is also the first flip foldable in the world with four cameras on its cover.

Huawei put a 6.94” foldable LPTO OLED on the inside, while the cover screen has a 1.15” circular screen next to the camera island in a dual-circle symmetric design. The big display has Full HD+ resolution, while the circular has 340 x 340 pixels.

The company stopped disclosing its chipsets a while ago, and we can only assume this new phone is powered by the Kirin 9000S. RAM is 12 GB with three storage options – 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB. There is also a Pocket 2 Art with fancier looks and a 16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage combo.

The main camera on the back of the Pocket 2 is a 50 MP shooter with OIS and f/1.6 aperture in front. The ultra-wide-angle cam has a 12 MP sensor and f/2.2 aperture, while the F/2.4 3x telephoto lens sits in front of an 8 MP imager and offers OIS.

The fourth unit is actually a 2 MP UV sensor. According to Huawei, the hyperspectral camera can detect UV intensity, suggesting you to apply sunscreen protection on your face, and even detect deep sunspots.

The phone supports two-way satellite messaging through Beidou, the Chinese satellite navigation system. The Pocket 2 comes with a 4,520 mAh battery, which is bigger than any previous flip foldable in the company's portfolio. On top of that, there is also 40W wireless charging for the first time, while the wired is rated at 66W.

A relatively small phone heats up quickly at these rates, so Huawei is using a VC, conveniently placed in the top half. There are also multiple graphite layers to improve the thermal conductivity.

The phone comes with HarmonyOS 4 out of the box, and the UI makes customization of the cover screen a lot easier. It could be a clock, a mood wallpaper, a GIF with a cute animated pet, or even an avatar; the possibilities are practically endless.

Of course, it is also used for notifications and a second screen for the taking selfies with the main camera, and since the phone is being launched in China first, the display can visualize a QR code for smart payments.
