Huawei teases the global launch of the MatePad Pro 12.2 with a Tandem OLED display

Huawei is preparing for a big event on Thursday (September 19) with a new watch incoming (the Huawei Watch GT 5, most likely the Watch D2 as well) and a new tablet. Well, new for the global market, anyway, as this is almost certainly the Huawei MatePad Pro 12.2 (2024) that was announced in China back in August.

The teaser posts so far mention the Tandem OLED PaperMatte Display, which made its debut with the Pro 12.2. This is a dual-layer OLED with higher brightness (up to 2,000 nits), increased endurance (should last three times longer than a regular OLED) and with 33% lower power consumption to boot.

The PaperMatte reduces glare and reflectivity (by 60%) and creates a paper-like writing experience for the Huawei M-Pencil stylus. Drawing and sketching is a major sales point for this tablet, thanks to the Huawei GoPaint app. The display runs at 144Hz, by the way, so it should feel more responsive as you draw.

The tablet will also have a keyboard cover, which can hold the screen angled low (making it comfortable for drawing) or prop it up so that you can use it as a tablet.

The MatePad Pro 12.2 (2024) won’t be alone, Huawei will also launch the MatePad 12X, in addition to the two watches. The Huawei MatePad 12X could be the MatePad Air (2024), judging from its back, but the X post doesn’t have any details.

Huawei’s September 19 event teasers: MatePad Pro 12.2 • MatePad 12X • Watch GT 5 • Watch D2

Check back with us on Thursday for all the details on Huawei’s new tablets and watches.

Too expensive, too heavy, and lack of protection. The only good thing about the Apple Magic Keyboard is the second USB port. The cantilever design is unique though, and usable if people like to take off their tablet from the keyboard.
