Huawei unveils Pura 70, 70 Pro and 70 Pro+

Huawei celebrates the 12th anniversary of the launch of the Ascend P1, the phone that started the photo-centric P series. To mark the occasion, the company decided to launch the latest P70 lineup, which is officially called Pura 70.

The 2024 edition of the series starts with a vanilla Pura 70, with the Pura 70 Pro and Pro+ following and a Pura 70 Ultra sitting on top of it all. They all share a triangular camera island and a new Kirin 9010 chipset made by Huawei (except the vanilla Pura 70, which runs on the Kirin 9000S1).

The company officially declines to comment on chipsets, but we learned it has an octa-core CPU with a single 2.3 GHz prime core, three 2.18 GHz powerful cores and four 1.55 GHz efficiency units.

This is the first time an Ultra device has been added to the P (now Pura) lineup, so you can find all the details in a separate article on our website. Keep reading below to learn everything about the other three:

Huawei Pura 70

Huawei Pura 70 is just 157.6 mm tall, the shortest non-foldable Huawei flagship in almost three years. It's built around a 6.6” LTPO OLED display of 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and 2,760 x 1,256 pixel resolution. There's a sheet of Kunlun Glass for protection on top. The phone comes with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB storage. There is no slot for memory card expansion.

The Pura 70 camera setup retains two of the shooters from its predecessor, Huawei P60. Those are the 13MP F/2.2 ultrawide camera and the 12 MP f/3.4 5x telephoto with OIS. The main camera still has a variable f/1.4-f/4.0 aperture but has now been upgraded to a 50 MP sensor.

Huawei equipped the Pura 70 with a 4,900 mAh battery that supports 66W wired, 50W wireless and 7.5W reverse wireless charging and the required Huawei SuperCharge adapter ships in the box. The phone runs HarmonyOS 4.2.

Huawei Pura 70 starts from CNY5,499 ($760/€710) for its base 12/256 GB version and goes up to CNY6,999 ($965/€905) for the 1 TB option. There are four color options: Sakura Rose Red, Ice Crystal Blue, Snow White, and Feather Sand Black. Pre-orders are now open, with sales beginning on Monday, April 22.

Huawei Pura 70 Pro and Pura 70 Pro+

Pura 70 Pro and Pro+ are a couple of eye-catching phones, each with a different style.

The back panel is the first of the few differences between the two; the second is that the Plus has 16 GB RAM, while the regular Pro makes do with 12 GB. Finally, the more premium model supports satellite messaging, working with Beidou and Tiantong satellites, but this feature will not be available on overseas devices. Everything else – display, cameras, battery is identical between the two.

We are looking at a 6.8” LTPO OLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2,844 x 1,260 pixels. The screen is protected by a different type of Kunlun glass, which is Basalt-tempered – a Huawei patent technology seen previously only in the Mate 60 RS. It should improve the durability twice, compared with other Kunlun Glass solutions, according to Huawei's internal tests.

Huawei Pura 70 Pro and Pro+ feature triple rear cameras. The main 50 MP f/1.4-f/4.0 with OIS is identical to the vanilla Pura 70, while the telephoto gets an upgrade to a 48 MP sensor and F/2.1 3.5x lens with OIS. A 12.5 MP ultrawide snapper rounds up the back.

The Pro duo comes with a Super Focus Macro feature that can focus on objects 5 cm from the cam.

Huawei Pura 70 Pro+

The Pura 70 Pro+ features a woven plaid design and is available in three different color options. It's still merely a layer under the glass back, but it looks cool and changes depending on the lighting. The Pura 70 Pro, in contrast, has a plain panel. Underneath is a 5,050 mAh battery with 100W wired, 80W wireless and 20W reverse wireless charging support. The OS is once again HarmonyOS 4.2.

Huawei Pura 70 Pro

Huawei sells Pura 70 Pro in White, Black and Purple with a starting price of CNY6,499 ($900/€840) for the 12/256 GB option, while the most expensive version with 1 TB storage is CNY7,999 ($1,100/€1,030).

Huawei Pura 70 Pro+

Huawei Pura 70 Pro+ comes in Silver, White, and Black and costs CNY7,999 for 16/512 GB, while double the storage is CNY8,999 ($1,245/€1,165). Both phones are up for pre-order, while actual sales will begin on April 22.

There is no word whether these phones will go international or will remain China-exclusive like the Mate 60 series.

From your point of you.. yeah.. but what about his point of view? What if that guy now has a P30 or P40 which were "normal size" phones? I mean... Thanks for your opinion but.. i don't get it. Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Google.. almo...

It's a China-exclusive and pricing there is lower then in the rest of the world. So if Pro+ cost 1165€ what do you think, how much would cost on our non-Chinese market? Hmmm? What do you think Cpt.? Hmmm?
