Infinix Note 40 Pro+ review
XOS 14 and Android 14
The Infinix Note 40 Pro+ runs on the company's latest take on Android - XOS 14. It's also based on the latest Android 14 version. Infinix says it's planning to bring 2 major software updates to the device and 3 years of security patches.
Since we've covered XOS 13.5, we suggest reading the Infinix Hot 40 Pro's software section to get a good grasp of what to expect. Things haven't changed much, especially UI-wise.
Still, the company did add some modern features under the Note AI umbrella. It leverages AI to help you create written content, summarize text, generate wallpapers, and search for images in the gallery with context.
Benchmark performance
The Infinix Note 40 Pro+ is based on a MediaTek Dimensity 7020 chipset. It is a very new chipset from the beginning of this year. However, the Dimensity 7020 is, in fact, a rebranded Dimensity 930, which is not as recent as it was announced back in 2022.
The Dimensity 7020 is a modern chip based on TSMC's 6nm manufacturing process. In terms of CPU, the Dimensity 7020 has two big Cortex-A78 cores, clocked at up to 2.2GHz and another six small Cortex-A55 ones, working at up to 2.0GHz.
The GPU situation is a bit more interesting. MediaTek has partnered with Imagination Technologies before for its GPUs. Notably the PowerVR series of chips. The IMG BXM-8-256 GPU is another Imagination Technologies product. This GPU is based on the B-Series architecture that should be about 30% more power efficient than the previous generation (PowerVR). In terms of graphical APIs, the IMG BXM-8-256 claims to support OpenGL ES 3.x, OpenCL 3.0 and Vulkan 1.3. That last bit about Vulkan support seems to be a bit problematic since none of the 3DMark benchmarks are even supported by the Note 40 Pro+. Apparently, the particular GPU is missing some crucial Vulkan extensions. We didn't encounter any practical problems related to these Vulkan hurdles while gaming. It is still worth noting, though.
As far as memory is concerned, the Note 40 Pro+ has only one variant - 12GB/256GB. Pretty generous on the RAM front, while the storage type is listed as UFS 2.2.
And here are the benchmarks.
As you can see from the results, the Infinix Note 40 Pro+ drags behind the competition in terms of raw performance and it's the only SoC in the price bracket that doesn't support Vulkan features, hence why we weren't able to run any of the 3DMark's graphics benchmarks.
Sure, the device utilizes the SoC's potential to the fullest and outpaces the Moto G54 Power comfortably, which has the same chipset. However, most direct rivals run on much more powerful Dimensity 8300, Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 or even Galaxy A55's Exynos 1480.
Sustained performance
The Dimensity 7020 isn't a demanding chip, so as expected, the smartphone did pretty well in our CPU stress test.
Infinix Note 40 Pro+ CPU throttle test (60min)
The chip maintained high CPU clock speeds throughout the test, but as we mentioned earlier, we couldn't run 3DMark's stress test due to Vulkan incompatibility issues. Our educated guess is that the Note 40 Pro+ will do just fine in a GPU-intensive workload as well.
