Infinix Zero 30 review

Design

The Infinix Zero 30 5G has a modern look, mostly thanks to the aggressive display curvature on the sides. It is a flagship look for sure, even though the slightly thicker top and bottom display bezels give away its mid-range standing.

The display's curves meet a very thin middle frame (around 2.8 mm). The back side of the phone has a nearly perfectly symmetrical curve. The back is made from Gorilla Glass 5 like the front and features a glossy, almost metallic-like finish, which does not smudge easily.

The plastic frame has a plastic insert on the top side, which is kinda puzzling. Normally such elements would only be required on metal frames to enable antenna functionality, but here it appears to be a deliberate design choice.

As with most modern "slab" phone, it's the back that has any chance of being memorable in its looks. The large camera island definitely stands out. We like the accent color rings around the cameras and the matching island chamfer. The embossed ZERO logo on the back is also a nice little touch.

The back panel has a very fine, almost silky-smooth finish. It does not attract dirt and fingerprints easily. We definitely like the color selection on the Zero 30 5G. Our review unit came in "Golden Hour" color, which goes from a subtle golden color to something we would call a soft pink hue with a hint of orange depending on how the light hits it and we really like it. The phone can also be had in "Rome Green" and "Fantasy Purple" colors, which looks equally fun and youthful. The green model actually has a vegan leather back panel instead of glass.

Measuring 164.51 x 75.03 x 7.9mm and weighing in at 185 grams, the Zero 30 5G is a surprisingly compact and light device, given its large 6.78-inch display and hefty 5,000 mAh battery. The phone feels great in the hand and has well-balanced weight distribution.

Build quality

The Zero 30 5G offers an IP53 limited ingress protection rating, but the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back are rather impressive for the price range.

Infinix Zero 30 5G review

The Zero 30 5G feels very sturdy and well-made. There is practically no flex to speak of, nor is there any feel of hollowness anywhere. We believe that it should hold up fairly well in the long run.

Controls

The Zero 30 5G has a pretty standard control layout. The volume rocker and power button are both on the right-hand side of the phone. They are thin and not particularly easy to press, though. Tactile feedback could also be a bit better. In terms of reach, both controls are well positioned vertically on the frame.

The left frame of the Zero 30 5G is entirely bereft of functional elements.

The top of the phone is a bit busier. Here, we find a hole for the secondary noise-cancelling mic and a speaker grille.

The bottom side houses another speaker, to complete the stereo setup. A hole for the primary microphone, a dual nano-SIM card tray and the USB Type-C port are also here.

Infinix Zero 30 5G review

The Zero 30 5G uses an in-display fingerprint reader. It is both accurate and snappy, so nothing to complain here.

Despite the ambitious selfie camera promises its punch hole is reasonably sized. It also lacks any distracting accent rings and such.

Infinix Zero 30 5G review

Infinix found enough space above the display to fit the earpiece and a couple of sensors for light and proximity, and even a selfie flash module in the top left corner of the phone.

In case you were wondering, there is no notification LED on the Zero 30 5G.

Connectivity

The Zero 30 is a 5G-capable device. Its Dimensity 8020 chipset offers 5G NR Sub-6 GHz support on both SIM slots. The phone has Wi-Fi 6 (ax) and Bluetooth 5 with LE support for local connectivity. Also on board are NFC and an FM radio receiver.

Infinix Zero 30 5G review

The USB port is backed up by a USB 2.0 data connection, which means a theoretical maximum transfer speed of 480 Mbps. The Zero 30 5G has USB Host/OTG capabilities, but the USB port lacks any other fancy features like video output.

The sensors on the Zero 30 include an icm42631 accelerometer and gyroscope combo, a stk33562 hardware proximity and light sensor combo and an mmc5603 magnetometer and compass combo. There is also a SAR sensor on board. No barometer, though.
