Apple iPhone SE (2022) announced with Apple A15 chipset

iPhones have a reputation of being pricey – all except for one. The third-generation iPhone SE is here, two years after the 2nd gen arrived. It may look the basically same on the outside as the iPhone 6 design from 2014, but the internals are much improved.

Let’s start with the Apple A15 chipset, the same chipset as on the iPhone 13 series and the fastest smartphone chip around. Storage options have remained the same - 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB.

The screen still measures 4.7” in diagonal, though the hefty bezels above and below make this larger than an iPhone mini. Still, this generation gains the "toughest glass on a smartphone" (Ceramic Shield) for improved durability. Also, there is a Touch ID fingerprint reader below the screen, so you don’t have to worry about Face ID bugging out about masks.

The camera has been improved, though mostly on the computational photography side. The iPhone SE (2022) still has a single 12MP unit without goodies like sensor-shift image stabilization like the 13-series. The SE (2022) gets Smart HDR 4, Photographic Styles, and Deep Fusion.

It goes without saying that the new SE supports 5G. Apple is still selling iPhone 11 models, so it does have 4G offerings, but all current models are on 5G now. We should also note that the original SE from 2016 is running the latest iOS.
