It's the end of the road for the Nothing Phone (1)

The Nothing Phone (1) will not get an update to Android 16, which Google plans to release next month. This has been officially confirmed by the company itself in a brief statement: "Nothing Phone (1) will not support Android 16, but it will still receive security updates".

While sad, this news is anything but surprising, as the Nothing Phone (1) launched back in 2022 running Android 12, with a promise of receiving three major OS updates. And it has, as it's now running Android 15.

So the company has kept its initial promise, and it's going to keep issuing security patches for the phone for the foreseeable future. But if you want a future-proof device, software-wise, it's probably time to look at another smartphone. And wouldn't you know it, Nothing itself has something coming soon for you - in July it will unveil the Phone (3), billed as its first ever proper flagship handset, due to cost around £800.
