Lava Storm Play and Storm Lite unveiled: 120Hz display, IP64 rating, and 5,000 mAh battery for under INR 10k

Lava launched the Lava Storm back in December 2023, and today, the Indian handset maker unveiled two new 5G smartphones as a part of the Storm series - Lava Storm Play and Lava Storm Lite.

Lava Storm Play

Let's talk about the Lava Storm Play first, which is powered by the Dimensity 7060 SoC. Lava advertises the Storm Play as the world's first Dimensity 7060-powered smartphone, but that is in the sub-INR10,000 ($116/€100) segment, because the Motorola Moto G56, introduced last month, is the first smartphone to come with the Dimensity 7060 at the helm.

Anyway, moving on, the Lava Storm Play runs Android 15 without ads or bloatware and comes with the promise of one Android OS upgrade and two years of security updates. The smartphone has 6GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage onboard.

The Storm Play sports a 6.75" 120Hz HD+ notched display and packs a 5,000 mAh battery with 18W charging support. It also has a 50MP camera on the rear (Sony IMX752), joined by a 2MP auxiliary unit, and an 8MP camera on the front for selfies and video calls.

Additionally, the Lava Storm Play features a side-mounted scanner and is IP64-rated. It comes in two color options and will go on sale in India starting June 19 through Amazon.in with a special launch price of INR9,999 ($115/€100).

Lava Storm Lite

Let's talk about the Lava Storm Lite now. It's a Dimensity 6400-powered smartphone and comes in two memory configurations - 4GB/64GB and 4GB/128GB. Like the Storm Play, the Storm Lite also runs Android 15 out of the box and comes with the promise of one Android OS upgrade and two years of security updates.

What's also common between the two phones is the 6.75" HD+ 120Hz notched screen, 50MP primary camera, an IP64 rating, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a 5,000 mAh battery. The Lava Storm Lite charges at up to 15W, though, while its front camera uses a 5MP sensor.

The Lava Storm Lite also comes in two color options and will be available in India starting June 24 through Amazon.in. The Storm Lite has a special launch price of INR7,999 ($90/€80), which we believe is the cost of the base model, as that's the only price Lava shared.

Both smartphones come with Lava's free home service in India.

I hear more news about Lava than all of those brands combined. Last time I actually read a UMDIGI spec sheet was in 2024. It's almost time to turn to July...
