LG KF300 for your Mom

25 Mar, 2008

LG finally revealed the mysterious LG KF300 - a name tag that surfaced not long ago without any further information available. As it turns out, the LG KF300 is the GSM variant of the CDMA-only LG SV300 Wine phone.

The LG KF300 (be it Wine or not) is obviously targeted at the more... mature part of the population much like the original LG SV300. The name "Wine" comes from the "Wine Generation" (remember last time you set the alarm clock for your parents?). Its buttons, characters and speakers are twice the size of conventional phones making pressing, looking and hearing especially easy. It has even been awarded at the Ergonomic Design Awards event held annually by the Ergonomics Society of Korea.

With large alphanumeric keys and hardware shortcuts for the most frequently used features, the LG KF300 is not loaded with high-end features, but then again, it's not meant to be the next do-it-all multimedia device. And it's certainly the most feature-rich handset optimized for the elder customers that we've seen so far.

The LG KF300 is relatively large but compensates with a large 2.2-inch internal TFT display with QVGA resolution and the spacious keypad. Below the display there are four dedicated shortcuts for accessing Alarms, Organizer, Phonebook and Favorites.

The unique external surface hides a secondary 1.3-inch TFT display with a resolution of 128 x 160 pixels. The LG KF300 is also equipped with a 2 megapixel camera, a microSD memory card slot, FM radio and will run under a proprietary LG Flash-based user interface.

The LG KF300 will be available in black and pink. Availability and pricing are still not known.

I find the LG KF300 simply perfect for my needs. The screen is big and bright. The sound is excellent and very important - it is loud enough. Vibration alert could be stronger but it is sufficient. Speakerphone works well but if surrounding is noisy ...

@tyler: It does have an external screen, when you press a button you can see it under the front of the phone. It is an optical illusion that it is solid.
