LG Kids' smartwatches launch on Verizon

Kids want to wear smartwatches just like mom and dad, which is why Verizon is going to sell two new safety watches for parents or guardians to keep track of their children starting today.

There are two models, the GizmoPal 2 and the GizmoGadget. The GizmoGadget has a 1.3 inch touchscreen with limited capabilities but includes a pedometer and jump rope counter to encourage kids to be active. Both models feature calls to preset numbers, GPS tracking via the GizmoHub app, and interchangeable bands.

Battery life hasn't been officially mentioned by Verizon's release article but to give you an idea, the original GizmoPal had about 4 days of standby battery life. We will have to wait until Verizon posts spec pages for these watches to find out.

The GizmoHub app for parents and guardians can set GPS zones that can alert parents or guardians when a child has wandered into unfamiliar areas. It can also check the watch's remaining battery and accessible phone numbers.

The screen-less GizmoPal 2 will go for $79.99 while the GizmoGadget will go for 149.99, both off-contract. Service for these devices will cost $5 per month as an add-on to an existing plan.
