The first 4G HD smartphone, LG Optimus LTE, made official

04 October, 2011

Today LG announced the market availability of their Optimus LTE Android smartphone. The Korea-bound handset is the first in the world to pack both an HD screen and LTE connectivity.

The LG Optimus LTE screen measures 4.5" in diagonal and uses an IPS LCD panel of 720p resolution (that's 1280 x 720 pixels). Underneath you can find a 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU, though LG failed to confirm the manufacturer of the chipset. Chance are, though that previous rumors pointing at Qualcomm got it right.

The Gingerbread-running LG Optimus LTE features an 8 megapixel main camera with LED flash and a 1.3 megapixel front-facing snapper. The on-board HDMI port will make sure that its screen is not the only place where you can enjoy HD content.

In addition to LTE, the LG Optimus LTE will also offer either HSPA+ (if you go for the SK Telecom version) or Rev. A (for the LG U+ units). The internal memory on this one is only 4GB, but a 16GB microSD card will be provided in the retail package so there's nothing to worry about. Heavy multi-taskers will be glad to hear about the 1GB of RAM that comes with the Optimus LTE.

Unfortunately, the availability of Optimus LTE in markets outside of Korea has yet to be determined, so we don't know if the rest of the world will get this beast any time soon.
