        I bought this phone two weeks ago. it's features are good but the phone hanged up twice showing LG icon and won't boot, so have to bring to the service center for repair. They suspect it's the board. But how could it be when it's a brand new phone. And the problem is, according to the tech the board is much expensive than the unit.

                both sim card are active meaning you can make and receive phone calls on either of the SIM same thing for text messages.

                  Anonymous, 17 Jul 2011Hi. . I would like to know if this is a dual active sim or ... moreAccording to the original specs of this phone, it says it's a dual stand-by dual sim phone. But in actual practice, this is a dual-active dual sim phone.

                  Here's a couple of definitions I found for dual active:

                  1. Active dual-SIM phones
                  They allow both SIMs to be active simultaneously and allow calls to be received on either number at any given time. - or -
                  2. In the dual ACTIVE sim cellphone, the user can easily change from sim1 to sim2 in one press of a switch. User can return to sim1 again by just pressing the switch sim key again.

                  Here's how dual-standby is defined:

                  1. Standby dual-SIM phones:
                  Several types of adapters are available. All of them allow only one SIM to be active, and to receive calls, at any given time; they provide various ways of switching from one SIM to the other:
                  -Earlier versions required the phone to be switched off and on again to change from one to another. -Later models allow the user to switch SIM cards via a menu or by keying in a numeric code, without switching the phone off. - or -
                  2. in the dual STANDBY sim cellphone, the user has to do the following:
                  a. User presses switch key to change from sim1 to sim2;
                  b. User has to specify that the new default sim is sim2;
                  c. Cellphone will show message that the change in default sim will restart the phone, and asks for a confirmation from the user;
                  d. Once the user confirms, cellphone restarts, and user waits for the cellphone to become ON again;
                  e. Once the cellphone is ON, user can use the cellphone using sim2.

                  The P525 is so easy to use and switching from sim1 to sim2 for making calls or sending text messages is a no-brainer. Also, you don't even having to do anything special when receiving calls or texts. Both sims are active. I just assign different ring and message tones for each sim so I don't get confused which line/number is being called.

                    i don't know if this is the type of dual-active that you mean but I can receive text messages and calls on both SIMs with out using a switch.

                    Now if you want to call and talk with both SIMs at the same time ... that I don't know.

                              I've had this phone for a week now and have fully explored all its functions, at least those I'm most interested in. I'm pleasantly surprised by it's quality. The touch screen is very responsive for a resistive type. Navigating thru its menus is easy and straight-forward.

                              It's feature set are somewhat mediocre compared to, let's say, the Samsung GT-B7722 (which I also own). The Samsung has 3g and quad-band for the 1st SIM, a larger touch screen and has a 5 mega-pixel camera. But it isn't as easy to use as the LG. The resistive touch screen of the Samsung is not very responsive, and can be frustrating at times.

                              The available ram/memory is also lacking in the Samsung. After viewing a few pages on the web using its built-in wifi, the Samsung runs out of memory! And I'm using Opera Mini! I found the LG P525 more useful surfing the web, whether with Opera Mini or it's native internet browser. The LG has wifi as well. It also has SNS and allowed me to log onto to my Facebook with ease.

                              Both units make use of widgets. They're very useful but because of the memory restrictions on the Samsung, I couldn't use them that much. The widgets on the LG, on the other hand, are much more useful because you CAN actually use them without worrying about running out of memory.

                              I'm not too concerned about camera/video performance. But for a unit with a 5 megapixel camera, the quality of the Samsung's pictures are very similar to that of the LG, which only has a 2 megapixel camera. Makes you wonder.

                              When I purchased the Samsung GT-B7722 last year, I thought it would address all my needs for a dual-sim phone, based on the specs and reviews. But in actual practice, the Samsung falls short, very short.

                              The LG is a more polished unit through and through. With OS's ease of use, coupled with the very responsive reflective-type touchscreen, is miles ahead of the Samsung. It may seem as a downgrade to some, but for me, the LG P525 meets and exceeds my expectations for a dual-sim phone.

                                  yes, you can switch from "standard view" to "threaded view" in the messaging area. :)

                                        And to add, the first sim card slot is "QUAD-BAND" not tri-band. It says so on the box and manual.
