Honor Magic6 Pro review

GSMArena Team, 25 February 2024.

Design, build quality, handling

The Magic6 Pro builds on the Magic5 Pro's design and adds a few touches of its own. The large camera cluster on the back with the three modules arranged in a triangular formation is still here, but it's now augmented with a cushion-shaped metal surround, color-matched to the exposed frame.

In the Epi Green colorway of our review unit, the camera surround and the frame are in a pale rose gold hue, treated to a semi-gloss finish. The back panel is made of soft faux leather material and is both grippy and not welcoming to fingerprints.

The Black variant, on the other hand, features a glass back with a satin effect - while we haven't seen that one, previous experience suggests that it's going to be rather slippery.

These first two options are the only ones available outside of China, but the Magic6 Pro's home market gets three more colorways. One of them is a purple version of the leatherette back, with the same texture. The other two options have glass backs too, with the white one mimicking a glacier and the bluish one having wave-like ripples.

Over on the front, the OLED display is protected by Honor NanoCrystal Shield - it's not Corning's Gorilla Glass, but Honor says it's got "ten times the drop resistance as certified by SGS's Five Star Glass Drop Resistance Ability". The glass is curved on the sides as well as towards the top and bottom edges, while the display only bends on the sides.

The under-display fingerprint reader is optical and works great both in terms of speed and accuracy. The pre-applied plastic screen protector doesn't appear to bother it either. The sensor is positioned a little too low for our taste, though.

You can alternatively use the 3D face unlock, which should be more secure than the plain camera-based option on phones that don't have the extra ToF hardware. It works nearly instantly and in complete darkness too. The cameras do get a cutout in the screen protector.

The Magic6 Pro carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance - the SIM tray's gasket doesn't guarantee that, but it's one of the measures to ensure sealing from the elements.

This a correction to my previous reply. I was wrong, i just tested the included 6A charging cable and it actually matches the aftermarket cable in charging speed.
