Yordan, 17 January 2018

You’ve read the rumors, and you’ve seen the leaks - now is time for the official unveiling of the Meizu M6s. The Chinese company introduced today the phone with an 18:9 tall screen, new Exynos 7872 chipset with hexa-core CPU and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner that unlocks the screen in 0.2 seconds.

While the position of the sensor below the power button is a first for Meizu, the Samsung-built SoC is first for any smartphone. The Exynos 7872 is coupled with six CPU cores - two Cortex-A73 at 2.0 GHz and four Cortex-A53 at 1.6 GHz for power efficiency. The GPU is Mali-G71 MP3. RAM of Meizu M6s is 3 GB. It comes with 32 GB or 64 GB of storage.

The front of the phone is mostly occupied by the 5.7” screen with HD+ resolution (1440 x 720 pixels), sitting under 2.5D glass. The selfie camera is 8 MP with facial enhancement technology for more beautiful selfies. The one on the back comes with 16 MP sensor and f/2.0 aperture and is coupled with an LED flash. The whole body looks splendid because of the sandblasted metal finish.

The OS is Meizu’s in-house Flyme 6.2. The power cell has 3,000 mAh capacity and comes with 18W fast charging and USB-C connector. Meizu promises 30% charge in 15 minutes and 52% in half an hour. Meizu also jumped on the hype train of AI. It introduced One Mind engine that “provides improved performance and decreased power consumption”.

The physical mBack button on the front may be gone, but there is now a small circle called Super mBack that supports most of the gestures we’ve seen in previous Meizu phones and even introduces new ones. It might sound familiar to hardcore fans, because it is the same as the circle from the Meizu MX2, launched back in late 2012.

One touch оf the button now gets you back; long press goes to the home screen, swipe left and right to switch apps and swipe up to pull all the apps. If that sounds too complicated, the Meizu M6s will also sport the traditional tri-button navigation bar.

The phone will arrive online on January 19 with prices starting from CNY999/$155/€126 for the 32 GB option and CNY1,199/$186/€152 for the 64 GB variant. It will be available in Black, Silver, Gold, and Blue.
