Meizu MX5 battery life test

Meizu MX5 turned out one very interesting device with an excellent 5.5" AMOLED screen, powerful Helio X10 chip and a great 20MP camera. There is also a beefy 3,150 mAh battery to further sweeten the deal.

The MediaTek's solutions are rarely considered energy-efficient chipsets, so we were eager to test the MX5 battery endurance and see how it stacks against its predecessors and other Helio X10 devices such as the Redmi Note 2.

The MX5 did well on our 3G talk time test, but far from impressive. The endurance of 13 hours is about 3 hours behind the MX4's score and far from a flagship one.

The MX5 single-SIM standby endurance is about average, but using it with two SIM cards lowers the standby performance a lot. So, the smartphone does average across all of our tests, including the single-SIM standby, but scored a poor mark on the dual-SIM standby thus losing 9 hours from the total endurance rating in this scenario.

The rating of 55 hours isn't bad though - it means you can use the MX5 for two full days and then some if you are to make an hour of 3G talks, web browsing and video playback each day. Putting a second SIM card drops the rating down to 46 hours.

Those numbers are nowhere near the MX4 and MX4 Pro scores, which puts some fire into the MediaTek vs Snapdragon battery optimizations. Meizu has to do some serious optimizations with the next Flyme updates.
