Every brand has a different target all together. Because Apple is not at all comparable with Nokia, whereas Samsung, LG, Nokia are on the same base.

    Rather I will say Nokia today is just has it's market up by it's goodwill, It's products are not as trustworthy as it used to be.

    If you are going for Micro-max go for it, because you never know bad luck will push you down even with the best brand till date in the market..

                        Will I get decent speed if I connect Micromax A75 with my lappy? Currently I am having Nokia 5233 and I get around 50-60kbps download speed (when signal is full on Tata Docomo 2G). I checked the specifications of both phones and it showed that Nokia 5233 has GPRS and EDGE of Class 32 while Micromax A75 is only Class 12.
                        Will I get similar speed if I use Micromax A75???
                        Please let me know. I have only this doubt. If I am going to get similar speed, I am thinking of buying this one :)

                                    @Rahul @R Roger

                                    The simple explanation for your doubts is as follows. Andriod is a stock OS made by google. It is open source i.e. the programming used to make Android is available for anyone who wishes to tinker with it. Phone manufacturers take the standard Android and modify it to make to suit that particular phone model. This is to enable everything on the phone to work properly. What works on one phone model most probably will not work on another phone model as the underlying hardware and firmware will be different between the two. This modified Android forms the Kernel code.

                                    The important part is that in order to use Android in their phone, Google requires the manufacturers to provide the Kernel codes to the public, as per the GPL rules. Micromax is failing to fulfill this requirement by refusing to provide the Kernel codes. Developers require the kernel codes of a particular phone to ensure that they can tweak apps to ensure that the apps run properly on that particular phone. Also the Kernel codes are absolutely necessary for custom ROMs like cyanogenmod to work on a particular phone. Custom ROMs refers to an android OS which has been modified by third-party developers and usually contains many features which improve the functionality of the phone.

                                    So you can see that without the Kernel codes being made public, a user of the phone is very much restricted on what he/she can do with the phone. There will not be any custom apps in the Android market, optimized for the A75, to download and no custom ROMs to install. It is also likely that many apps won't work correctly on the phone and installing certain apps may even brick the phone if they conflict with enough of the basic system values of the phone. There is no way of knowing what such apps may be as the Kernel codes are not known. So in effect you are restricted to using stock apps that have no customization at all.

                                    Also Micromax has never provided Android updates for its mobiles so far. In fact it promised a Gingerbread update for the A70 phone which came with a factory-installed Android Froyo. It has been 6 months since that promise was made and a new model to replace the A70 has been launched but that update has still not arrived. This is very important because there are numerous improvements in Gingerbread that improves the functionality of the phone compared to Froyo. Also Gingerbread has improved battery management as compared to Froyo which ensures better battery life for the phone. All this was promised as an update but it never came. And since kernel codes were not released the users of A70 were not able to use a custom ROM to install gingerbread or develop their own ROM.

                                    You may ask why what happened to the A70 is related to the A75. The answer is simple. The A75 comes with Gingerbread factory-installed. But the next update of Android called Ice-Cream Sandwich(ICS) is just around the corner. Some high-end phones have already started shipping with it. ICS is supposed to be a game-changer with numerous improvements over Gingerbread. But ICS will most likely be denied to Micromax users. There is a very high chance that Micromax will stay true to form and never release an ICS update for the A75 and since the kernel codes were not made public, forget about using a custom ROM. In effect people who buy this phone will be using out-dated software within a few months time with no way for them to update said software.

                                    I hope that this has cleared your doubts over what kernel code is and why releasing it is important.

                                    @Srinu
                                    I too was initially enthused about buying this phone. It sounded too good to be true at that price point. My research has led me to avoid this phone and Micromax like the plague though. Horror stories about the Micromax after-sales service are numerous in the internet. There are numerous people whose phones were retained at the service center for 4-6 months and then returned with numerous scratches and without the problem being solved. That coupled with lack of updates and a failure to release the kernel codes has made me determined to avoid Micromax.

                                    Another thing I noticed about this phone is that the processor is claimed to have a 650mHz clock-speed but make of the processor is not mentioned. This is a very unusual speed. There are numerous processors at 528mHz, 600mHz and 800mHz but very few at 650mHz. The only one I could find is a MediaTek processor. But because the make of the processor is not mentioned explicitly makes me believe that this phone has an over-clocked processor and not the MediaTek one. Else why not mention it and make it clear? Over-clocking reduces the life of the processor if you do it too much. Do you want to take the risk of having problems with the phone knowing how terrible the after-sales service is?

                                    A highly respected member at a popular forum said this when asked about Micromax mobile, "Micromax aims to give a high specifications phone at the cheapest price possible. Do you really believe that they managed to provide you all those goodies at that price without cutting a few corners?"

                                    It is your choice on whether you want to buy this phone or not. As for me, I have read enough in too many forums and websites to make me steer away from it.
