Microsoft looks into purchasing TikTok, Donald Trump claims
Microsoft might purchase TikTok's US operations. This information comes directly from US President Donald Trump, who added that "there's great interest in TikTok" when asked about Microsoft's potential acquisition of the app.
"We'll see what happens. We're going to have a lot of people bidding on it, and if we can save all that voice and all the jobs, and China won't be involved, we don't want China involved, but we'll see what happens," he said in his speech, referring to the video-sharing app.
Microsoft declined to comment on reports of the company's involvement in a deal.
Trump mentioned he enjoys bidding wars among candidates for TikTok, as they lead to the best deals. "So if there's a bidding war, that's a good thing."
TikTok has 170 million American users, but the U.S. is worried about its owner ByteDance's connections to China. The company was expected to secure a buyer by January 19, and after briefly halting operations, it now has 75 days (until April 4) to complete the sale or face a ban, unless the U.S. president chooses to delay the Supreme Court's ruling again.
