I've had it for a little less than a year now and honestly I love it.
Side-fingerprint is a must have for me, it's snappy.
The camera is tricky to use, I'm not a big expert and it certainly has a learning curve. Sometimes the default settings of the camera make it take stunning pictures that are much more photorealistic and aesthetically pleasing than the pictures I've seen come out of Samsung and iPhones. That said, sometimes the contrast and the lightning make it take pics that look honestly mediocre. I'd recommend buying it with the expectation of slowly learning how to use the camera.
The microSD tray is heaven to expand storage and I plan to get that extra TB from it eventually, especially since 4K shooting means a lot of space is taken up if you shoot a lot of videos.
The flashlight is kinda weak. Every other flashlight I used on a phone felt like a beam from God but this one is really tame in comparison.
The screen is great. The brightness goes up to the right point. I'd like the max to be a bit brighter to see better in blazing sun brightness.
The back of the phone is nice for the texture, unfortunately I don't use it without a cover cause I don't want to risk anything.
The dedicated camera shutter button is incredibly, incredibly useful. Saved me many times when I had gloves on, and it feels good to use.
In terms of battery, I feel like it's a bit short, even more so than my last phone, but that's probably caused by me keeping it at 120Hz and it being a 4K display, so I guess that's the tradeoff.
I wish it came with a cable. Those things are destroyed quickly unlike powerbricks.
The signal, for me, is mid. My last phone got better service, and the internet feels pretty slow. Geographically I am in Italy and my operator is WINDTRE. I have 5G, but it is slower than my Huawei P20's 4G.
Speakers are really powerful.
It's incredibly light, especially without cover.
In terms of processor power I have no qualms.
There are a few reoccurring bugs that I've encountered that require restarts, so the OS feels somewhat unpolished.
Thank fuck it has a jack. It's the biggest saving grace. I can't be bothered to charge my earpods, so I'm glad I can avoid having multiple earpods. That was what bothered me the most about my P20.
Overall satisfied. I can't say I like the price point I bought it at (1170eur). For the current price I would recommend it wholeheartedly. It does everything, and the niche uses are a pretty active part of the experience (jack and sd, camera shutter button). Application support is not overly lacking but just behind other phone brands'.

Better videos straight out of the box: xiaomi 14 ultra, iphone 15 pro max. Go to the any store that has these phones, record simple video then give to your friend or whatever without IT knowledge. Let him decide which video is the best and don't tell him which one is which. Because that's the real test :))))

NeverPayOver1000eur, 16 May 2024I have posted at least 4 photos of my battery usage here on... moreoh yeah... mentioning about high bitrate... this is underrated - if people even know and appreciate this on video recording (i guess it will be downplayed by users of other popular brands)...
1v still has the highest bitrate, they slightly reduced it on 1vi, similar area to 1iv...
vivo, also another brand with high bitrate still cannot match what xperia 1 offers...
do not even consider comparing the bitrates of samsung and apple...

Anonymous, 17 May 2024I'm happy with any phone worth the price manufacturer ... moreI think you must be suffering from brain damage with answers like this. Every single one of my phones I get for free from work which I have said multiple times (like at least 10 times in the comments when people are dumb enough to mention my username); it's about not overpaying for a device in principle. By the way, the Xperia 1V is on Amazon now for €850. So checkmate. You could do with some reading and Googling practise.

You don't even own this phone but you're on here name dropping stuff like Doogee (lol what is this, some no name Chinese brand by the sounds of it?) and Blackview? Who are they? Brands I have never heard of and don't care about. Sony has been around for over 70 years. Why would I buy from a brand that probably hasn't even been around for 10 years? Least of all some Chinese brand. So you don't like Sony and don't care about AUX, alright no one cares. It's your loss not mine and I really don't care about you personally.

Why should I care about how often a phone gets updates when I swap my phone every 12 months thanks to getting to pick a new one for work? I am stuck with a phone only for 1 year before I get another one, so even if it really is a lemon I don't have to wait long to get a new model. Your manners need a massive improvement when talking to others mate and stop arguing things you don't know anything about. This is not reddit, you won't get points here. Just laughed at.

I'm still waiting for you to comment on the video specs I mentioned and name me a phone that takes better video (except for the Xperia 1 VI LOL).

NeverPayOver1000eur, 16 May 2024I have posted at least 4 photos of my battery usage here on... moreI'm happy with any phone worth the price manufacturer asks.

"The AMOLED display has a higher quality than OLEDs since it has an additional layer of TTs and uses backplane technologies. When compared to OLED screens, AMOLED displays are far more flexible. As a result, they are substantially more expensive than an OLED display."

Time to move without cables, AUX is old as f and super uncomfortable to bring cables out. Asus zenfone 10 still better option if you prefer to have AUX.

UFS 4.0 literally uses all new smartphones.

          Dedicated Shutter Button: Blackview BV9900,
Doogee S95 Pro, Iphone 15 pro max and so on.

DSEE Extreme - Video Boost | Google AI , any tool online to boost video.

Maybe you can name phones with more than 2 major updates(like sony does), more features, faster charging, brighter screen, more accessories, more reasonable price, faster 0-day issue fixing? Oh wait that probably any phone available at the same price sony asks their customers.

Quick info: I've check price in UK for this overpriced product: it costs 1260euros, in france 1200euros, 1200 bucks in US (3 big markets). Read your name again lol.

You can go back through the comments yourself Mr. "Anonymous" troll and check the photos. If you are so happy with your Scamdung or OnePleb then why are you on here trolling on the Xperia comments?

Why didn't you try and refute what I said about the video kiddo? Show me another phone that takes even half as high quality 10bit HDR video as this phone. For the price we also get AUX, real OLED, UFS 4.0 , Dedicated Shutter Button, DSEE Extreme etc.

            Just curious.

Will this be a good upgrade to my Xperia E5? Been using this as my daily driver for 8 years now but I'm put off by the 5000 MaH battery (i'd love to see them go a little further than the competition) and I don't think that the chipset is all that faster to the Mediatek MT6735. I mean don't get me wrong my E5 is slowing down. But but if I upgrade now I want to make sure that this phone really FEELS like an upgrade. How do the cameras on the Vi compare to the E5 in trying to capture the northern lights? Is anyone else waiting for VII in 2025?

If there price isn't going down anytime soon the least Sony could do is raise the native picture size to 20MP. They know their buyers are photographers, why not cater to them instead of the masses? 12MP simply doesn't offer enough detail on screens bigger than a phone.
