Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) review
Display
The Motorola G Stylus 5G (2024) features a 6.7-inch P-OLED screen of extended 1080p resolution (395ppi), 10-bit color depth and 120Hz refresh rate. There is no official word on the screen protection and HDR capabilities if any.
Motorola advertises the display as capable of 1,200nits of peak brightness.
We have completed our display measurements, and we can confirm it is even better! The maximum automatic brightness is 1,387 nits at 80% white square, which is quite impressive. The maximum manual brightness we could achieve through the brightness scrubber was 550 nits.
The minimum brightness at point white was 2.9 nits.
Refresh rate
The Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) supports up to 120Hz refresh rate for its display. You can choose between 60Hz, 120Hz and Auto modes.
The Auto and 120Hz modes behave almost the same - they dial down to 60Hz for idle mode and for videos with up to 60fps. There are various apps and games that support 90Hz and 120Hz. The Automatic mode prefers 90Hz for the UI half of the time and 60Hz for some apps like streaming or office.
The 60Hz mode always uses 60Hz, quite expectedly.
HDR and streaming
The Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) does not support HDR streaming, but you can get the maximum resolution from streaming apps like YouTube and Netflix, because of the Widevine L1 DRM support.
Battery life
The Motorola Moto G Stylus is powered by a large 5,000mAh battery. The phone scored a solid Active Use Score on our battery life test - 12:43h. It did very well on voice calls (almost 31 hours), web browsing (12+ hours), video streaming (almost 16 hours), and not bad when it comes to gaming - 6:44h.
Charging speed
The Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) supports up to 30W TurboPower charging, which is a fancy way to say USB Power Delivery. The phone ships without a power adapter.
The G Sylus (2024) also supports wireless charging, which is an upgrade from last year's model. It should go up to 15W.
We completed our wired charging test with Motorola's own 125W charger from the Motorola Edge 50 Pro but you can use probably achieve the same charging speeds with any third-party PD charger that's rated at 30W at least.
We clocked 28% of charge in 15mins and 53% in 30 mins. A full charge took 1 hour and 27 minutes.
Optimized charging and overcharge protection options are available, and you should keep those on if you want to prolong the battery's lifespan.
Speakers
The Moto G Stylus 5G offers two stereo speakers - one is at the bottom of the phone, and the other is front-facing - a.k.a. the earpiece. While the earpiece is naturally quieter, the balance is great. There is also support for Dolby Atmos.
The speakers scored a Very Good mark on our loudness test. The audio quality is good, but not great - the speakers have great vocals, but with minimum, if any, thump.
Use the Playback controls to listen to the phone sample recordings (best use headphones). We measure the average loudness of the speakers in LUFS. A lower absolute value means a louder sound. A look at the frequency response chart will tell you how far off the ideal "0db" flat line is the reproduction of the bass, treble, and mid frequencies. You can add more phones to compare how they differ. The scores and ratings are not comparable with our older loudspeaker test. Learn more about how we test here.
Network
We've imported the Moto G Stylus 5G (2023) from the US to Europe and when doing that, there is always the risk that some network features may not work. In our case, we successfully got 5G, VoLTE, and Wi-Fi calling to work hassle-free on A1 network but your mileage might vary depending on the network you plan on using it. This review is geared towards US consumers who might have the Moto G Stylus 5G as a locally available option.
