Moto X+1 with 1080p screen unintentionally confirmed

06 June, 2014

Motorola Moto G owners have been complaining that their precious status bar space is wasted with a permanent label displaying the carrier name. Reports started flying around that this will not be fixed, but Motorola VP of Product Management Punit Soni took to Google+ to prove them wrong with a screenshot showing a checkbox to hide the carrier name.

That's good news except for one small detail that makes it great news – the screen shot has 1080p resolution. Motorola does not have a 1080p phone, both the Moto X and Moto G are 720p. Then the obvious suspect is the Motorola Moto X+1.

The company initially tweeted that the Moto X successor is coming in late summer but there's been little official info about it since. We've seen a couple of leaks, including customizable back options.

As before there are wood back panel options but leather too. It remains to be seen how Lenovo's purchase of Motorola and subsequent closing of the US plant (which was instrumental to the Moto Maker customizations) will affect the Moto X+1.

Thanks to Akki for sending this in!

Do you own one? Phone is good, but camera is crap, especially for night shots.

I care about Moto; they're the last brand that still prioritizes call quality. Call me crazy, but before it's anything else, a phone should be good at being a phone.
